Our teams in Central Queensland have been busy in December, spreading joy and holiday cheer among the local communities. Last week, the Thiess Lake Vermont team partnered with the Dysart Community Centre to provide much-needed relief to struggling families. The team raised over $5,000 in donations to help the Dysart Community Support Group deliver 20 hampers to families in need this Christmas. In support of the Dysart Community Centre and the local Lions Club, the team also organised a Christmas train for community members to hop aboard and explore the Dysart neighbourhood Christmas lights over two magical nights. The Peak Downs team came together to collect donations of non-perishable food items, toys and essential goods for local families in partnership with the Dysart and Moranbah Community Reference Group and the Isaac Community Advisory Sub-Group. The donations went toward Emergency and Long-Term Accommodation in Moranbah Inc. Thiess staff also had a fantastic time hosting a Christmas party for the Dysart community last week, with rides and fun activities for all. It was an excellent opportunity to connect with new faces and spread festive spirit. Working hand in hand with communities local to our projects this year and giving back has been incredibly rewarding. Together, we’ve created a positive impact that we’re proud to celebrate.

Last Wednesday, we were delighted to welcome a very special guest, Santa Claus, at the Thiess kids' Christmas party held at our Head Office in Brisbane, Australia. Santa brought joy and excitement as he met Thiess families and spread festive cheer with Christmas presents for all. Families enjoyed a fun afternoon of games, activities, Christmas films and sweet treats.

It was fantastic to have the Queensland Police Service (QPS) stop by the Thiess Mackay Training Hub last week, where they delivered multiple Drive to Thrive virtual reality training sessions to staff members. Paul Stockwell, Thiess Queensland Asset Manager, said: "The road toll in Queensland has risen significantly this year, making it the highest in the country. We want to do our part in raising awareness and ensuring the safety of our staff during this particularly high-risk time of year." This innovative program educates drivers about risk factors and consequences, immersing them in real-life scenarios through VR headsets. During the sessions, participants experienced 360-degree simulations of road situations where things didn’t go to plan. Sergeant Stephen Smith from the Mackay District Crime Prevention unit said: "We look forward to continuing our innovative partnership with Thiess as all opportunities to positively influence the behaviours of the motoring public are valued very highly by the Queensland Police Service."

As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on 80 years of Thiess’ legacy in the Hunter Valley, which began with open-cut operations at Muswellbrook Coal Mine in 1944. Today, Thiess Rehabilitation is proud to deliver technology-led post-mining land restoration at the Muswellbrook site, which is making significant progress. Тийссийн нийт 10 ажилтан биечлэн очсон ч арын албанд байсан хүмүүстэйгээ нийлээд 20 гаруй хүн уг шинэ жилийг зохион байгуулахад оролцсон. --- Last Sunday, Thiess volunteers with support of RIGS project at Oyu Tolgoi in Mongolia bought festive cheer for over 50 children at the 'Unur Bul' centre, which is home to children aged 3–12, including orphans and those needing special care.  The day was filled with joy, featuring a fairy-tale performance, arts and crafts, games, dancing, gifts from Santa, and a festive countdown. The team was proud to come together to make the celebration memorable for every child.
