This year, we kicked off the festive season a little early.🥳🎄 Our team is spread across QLD, and this was the first time in 2024 we’ve all been together in one place—and what a treat it was! The day began with a birthday morning tea, followed by a fantastic Christmas lunch at Rich and Rare. The food was absolutely amazing. It’s not every day we get to connect as a full team in person, and moments like these remind us how much we value each other.🧡 #Truii #TeamTruii #ChristmasCelebration #FestiveSeason #FamilyFirst

✨ Episode 5 — Natural capital: The Tasmanian NRM Perspective ✨ In this episode of Truii Conversations, hosts Kathy McLeish and Dr David Waters are joined by Peter Voller PSM, a former Queensland Government agroforestry officer. Peter currently chairs the West Tamar Landcare and Cradle Coast NRM, and serves as Director on multiple conservation boards as well as representing Tasmania on the NRM Regions Australia Board. He draws on his 35-year career in natural resource management to discuss the value of natural capital. Peter shares insights from his experience with the Landcare movement and his work in vegetation management, emphasising the importance of preserving natural capital—land, water, and biodiversity—for both environmental and economic well-being. Key takeaways include: 📊 Accurate data is crucial for informed land-use decisions. 🌾 Farmers have differing views on healthy land, with some prioritising cleared pastures while others value natural landscapes. 🤝 Coordinated efforts and consistent data are essential for sustainable land-use and ecosystem protection. Tune in to hear Peter’s perspective on the evolving landscape of natural capital and why robust data and collaboration are essential for protecting critical ecosystems. 🎧 Listen now at truii.com/conversations or stream on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube. #Truii #TruiiConversations #NaturalCapital #NaturalResourceManagement #Podcast #Spotify #NRM #NRMRegionsAustralia #Landcare #VegetationManagement #Water #Land #Farming

✨ Episode 4—Natural capital: The environmental consultant’s perspective ✨ In this episode, hosts Kathy McLeish and Dr David Waters are joined by Andrew Drysdale, Chair of Desert Channels NRM Queensland and a consultant specialising in environmental and production accounts. He brings his expertise on natural capital and decades of experience in natural resource management across Queensland, as well as his insights from serving on the Murray-Darling Basin Community Committee. Andrew discusses the critical role of environmental markets and the importance of passing land on in better condition for future generations, particularly as demand for food and resources continues to rise. Key takeaways include: 🌾 How landholders can protect and enhance natural capital, such as soil, water, and biodiversity, to improve both productivity and sustainability ⚖️ The challenges of policy instability and the need for consistent environmental legislation to support long-term planning in land management 📍 Practical advice for farmers on mapping and benchmarking their natural capital to make informed decisions about future sustainability efforts Tune in to hear Andrew’s vision for sustainable agriculture and his advice on navigating the evolving landscape of natural capital. 🎧 Listen now at truii.com/conversations or stream on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or YouTube. #Truii #TruiiConversations #NewEpisode #NaturalCapital #NRM #NaturalResourceManagement #Environment #NRMQueensland #Landholders #EnvironmentalMarkets #EnvironmentalConsultant

Natural resource management (NRM) investment prioritisation need not be a whole new and frantic adventure every time a new grant opportunity is announced. There are a finite range of on-ground NRM actions that we can do and there is a common range of things that we care about (outcomes). The trick is implementing a prioritisation approach that allows portfolios of potential actions to be recast based on the priority outcomes for each new funding opportunity. Want to learn more? ✨ Episode 3—Natural capital: The corporate farmer’s perspective ✨ In this episode, hosts Kathy McLeish and Dr. David Waters are joined by Rob Wheatley, Senior General Manager of Euroley Pty Ltd, who has over 20 years of experience in horticulture and sustainable farming. We chat with Rob about his commitment to the preservation of natural capital and sustainability. Rob discusses the importance of demonstrating how Euroley’s investments contribute to environmental stewardship in alignment with broader environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) goals. Key takeaways include: 🌱 How biological farming methods, like integrated pest management and organic composting, have improved yield, soil health, and ecosystem balance 📏 The challenges of quantifying consistent and repeatable environmental metrics and the need for clear, standardised metrics in sustainable farming 🌾 The potential for technology and younger generations to drive a resilient, eco-friendly agricultural sector. How do you deal with unknown unknowns in environmental modelling? When asked to represent error, we leap to quantifying different aspects of data error and proudly proclaim a 95% confidence interval. However, this neglects epistemic error – the Rumsfeldian unknown unknowns. When we are modelling pure physical processes, this may not matter too much as the science is quite mature. But predicting biological outcomes, or social outcomes is fraught with epistemic error because the science of causal response is not as well developed. By ignoring epistemic error we ignore the limitations in our process and system interaction understanding. Interested in learning more?
