Universities Australia reposted this
It was an honour to open and close yesterday’s Australia-Japan Research and Collaboration Forum, which last met face-to-face in 2019 at Osaka University. A lot has changed since then, but the importance of collaboration hasn’t. In fact, it’s only grown stronger. The forum brought together senior leaders from 16 Australian and eight Japanese universities – proof that this partnership is thriving. Last night, we celebrated our partnership with the Japan Association of National Universities in an event co-hosted with His Excellency, Mr Kazuhiro SUZUKI, Ambassador of Japan to Australia. University of Newcastle's Guyati Garraka wa Witing program is transforming lives by offering essential speech pathology services to Aboriginal children through student placements. Make sure to vote for this incredible program, one of our Community Champion finalists for the #ShapingAustraliaAwards! https://lnkd.in/g2kKYDvi #speechpathology #studentplacements
In rural areas, limited access to speech pathology services leaves many children starting Kindergarten without the language skills to communicate effectively. Our Guyati, Garraka wa Witing project, which translates as “talk, mouth, lips” in Dunghutti, addresses this gap by delivering vital speech pathology services to Aboriginal children through student placements. We're very proud that this project is a finalist for the People's Choice Award at this year's Universities Australia Shaping Australia Awards! Voting is open now, you can find the link in the comment section.
