Almost two years ago, the VCCC Alliance spearheaded an International Women's Day event tackling the thorny issue of what is sometimes referred to as medical misogyny, or medical bias, to name a few. Our speakers included The Guardian's Gabrielle Jackson, Ged Kearney, Sue Matthews, Prof Zoe Wainer, and David Speakman, Chaired by Linda Kristjanson AO, FAICD, FTSE. We welcome the ongoing discussion in this space and encourage women to share their stories as invited to by The Age, because their voices deserve to be heard. https://lnkd.in/gRi8aG3U You can watch a recording of this event via our dedicated online educational platform, the Centre for Cancer Education, here: https://lnkd.in/gpKeKmpK (Note: you'll need to register, but it is FREE!) We’ve marked a significant milestone for our newly established charity as we gathered our dedicated Board of Directors and management team for our first strategy planning day. With expert guidance from Dr Paul Eleftheriou from Nous Group, our objectives for the day were clear and ambitious: 1️⃣Define our purpose: We discussed our strategic priorities, and drafted our vision, mission, and values statements. 2️⃣Develop our Impact Programs Framework: We outlined a robust framework to align with our purpose and guide effective decision-making, which is key to our long-term success. We are excited about the progress made during this meeting and look forward to implementing these strategies to revolutionise childhood cancer care. Brendan Murphy AC Grant McArthur AO Hon. We were thrilled to be able to assist with the organisation and running of this event today, to support nurses who care for Victorian adolescents and young adults experiencing cancer.
Today almost 100 nurses from around the world came together to discuss the future of cancer nursing for young people with cancer! Held as part of the 6th Global AYA Cancer Congress, this workshop was an opportunity for nurses to discuss some challenges nurses face in delivering care to adolescents and young adults with cancer and how these difficulties can be overcome. Thanks to the VCCC Alliance, Louise Soanes and Rachel Taylor for helping to organise and leading today's event. Special thanks to the panellists, our youth cancer advocates and workshop leaders. As part of the workshop, a position statement was created for nurses in AYA cancer care, view in the images below! #ayacancercare #ayacancer #cancernurse #globalayacancercongress

Next Monday 9 December is our Consumer Engagement Forum and this year we are excited to host it in partnership with Bendigo Health and Loddon Mallee Integrated Cancer Service (LMICS). Significantly, the forum will be held for the first time in regional Victoria, at Bendigo Health. It builds on our collective efforts to strengthen local regional consumer advocacy, as well as effective engagement practice. This year’s forum is dedicated to advancing equity in regional cancer care through building lasting partnerships with consumers and community. We're incredibly excited about what can be achieved when more diverse voices are heard. We encourage everyone in the cancer sector including people affected by cancer to have their say on Cancer Australia's National Framework for Genomics in Cancer Control. As part of our previous four-year funded program of work, the VCCC Alliance delivered a program, Personalised Cancer Care, which included regular Precision Oncology Forums (which are continuing to be provided), and support for the Centre for Cancer Immunotherapy on Level 13 of the VCCC, to name a few. A key milestone was a Precision Oncology Roadmap which has been developed in partnership with the Monash Partners Comprehensive Cancer Consortium. We look forward to communicating the Roadmap further, in the near future.
Do you work in the cancer sector or are someone affected by cancer? Have your say on the draft National Framework for Genomics in Cancer Control. This framework will assist health professionals, researchers, health services and policymakers to incorporate genomics within optimal care, in a way that is consistent, safe, high-quality, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate. Your participation is essential for refining and strengthening the framework. Visit our Engagement Hub to view the Draft National Framework for Genomics in Cancer Control and complete the online survey: https://bit.ly/3YZEwrU Consultation will close on 24 December 2024

Excited to have this initiative under the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre roof. Well done University of Melbourne Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Sean Grimmond
Today, Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas MP launched the Collaborative Centre for Genomic Cancer Medicine – a groundbreaking joint venture between the University of Melbourne and Peter Mac. This innovative centre is dedicated to improving cancer outcomes through cutting-edge genomics-driven strategies for prevention, testing, and treatment. By mapping a person’s DNA blueprint, genomics enables personalised prevention strategies, accurate diagnoses, and targeted therapies, transforming how we manage cancer. 💬 Professor Sean Grimmond, the Centre’s inaugural Director, shared the Centre's mission: "To make genomic-informed approaches the standard of care for cancer, and within reach for all Australians."
