This year, satellite events at West Tech Fest have exploded - 26 in total across the week. Some open to anyone, some invitational. Most are free or cost recovery and mostly run in and around the City of Perth. Some might say this is a lot and there could be cannibalisation of audience, but I say, this is a really positive sign for the growth of Western Australia's ecosystem. Most large Festivals, think SXSW & London Tech Week, grew off the back of their satellite events. The core West Tech Fest events (Women, Main, Coast, Freo & this year Standup) are the main ingredients of the week, but the Satellite events are the icing. Providing extended networking opportunities for further connection, deep conversations, diversity in event experiences, often smaller and more niche, offering specialised topics, accessible formats, allowing us to test new themes or experiences before scaling to larger audiences and importantly spreading events across the city allows different venues to participate, creating a citywide buzz and boosting the local economy. All of these satellite events have been created by the community, which enables all of us to be custodians of the Festival and play a part in its growth. So let's get behind all of them!
