  • We were fortunate to join 25 exhibitors at the Australian Made Recovered Resources Showcase, hosted by the National Waste & Recycling Industry Council and the Australian Council of Recycling (ACOR), to highlight what’s happening in the sector as part of National Recycling Week! We used virtual reality technology to demonstrate how Energy-from-Waste technology works, giving a real-life tour of our Staffordshire facility in the UK. Thanks to Angie Bell, Rob Mitchell, Dan Repacholi, Tony Zappia, Cameron Caldwell, The Hon Karen Andrews, The Hon. Jonathon Duniam, Jenny Ware MP, Shayne Neumann, David Gillespie, Bert Van Manen and Libby Coker MP for stopping by the booth and checking out our gear!

In just five years, NSW has supercharged its domestic recycling capability, and the success of this Veolia Material Recycling Facility is a great illustration of this. Veolia received grant money under the NSW Government Product Improvement Program, an early response to China’s 2018 National Sword Policy restricting the importation of certain materials for recycling. NSW now recycles close to 140 thousand tonnes MORE material per year than it did previously. This is critical as we know landfill in Greater Sydney is set to run out by 2030 if we don’t take action. Because of this program Veolia is now selling an average of 1,787 tonnes per month to local paper mills and has reduced the contamination of its mixed paper output from 14 to 3%. • Happy National Recycling Week! Even though we’re busy recycling every day, this week is extra important because it helps to remind people of the positive impact they can have by recycling right. We know that recycling isn’t always easy, so over the next handful of days we’ll share a series of tips, tricks and common myths to be conscious of when you’re putting something in your recycling bin. Here’s five tips to get you started. #NationalRecyclingWeek #Recycling #CircularEconomy

  • Have you read our Net Zero roadmap yet? We share our plan for reducing our carbon emissions to net zero by 2050 through four key pillars. 📈 Capture: By 2032, our goal is to reach a 75% average capture rate of methane at our landfills, which is our most material emissions source. 💸 Invest: We will reduce Scope 1 & 2 emissions by investing in recycling and recovery infrastructure to increase diversion of waste from landfill. 🤝 Offer: We will give our customers solutions to monitor and reduce carbon emissions in their own operations. An example of this is our work with the University of the Sunshine Coast, where we built, installed and operated rooftop solar panels and a water storage tank to cool water for air conditioning, saving a projected 100,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions over 25 years. 🌱 Generate: We will increase the use of green energy sources within our own operations, moving towards energy self sufficiency. We are in a unique position where we have the opportunity to deliver solutions to customers that will help them decarbonise, depollute and regenerate. At the same time, we are accelerating our own processes to speed up progress in our own operations to achieve these Net Zero goals. Read our new roadmap in full here: https://lnkd.in/gyxpWZ6c

  • Our Growth Team recently planted 170 trees at our Woodlawn Eco-Precinct (Pylara Farm) on Ngunnawal Country, playing their part to help improve local biodiversity. Among the species of trees were the Black Gum, Black Sallee, River Bottlebrush, River Tea Tree and Red-stem Wattle, all of which will: 🌲Support our Net Zero goals by storing about 85 tonnes of carbon over 20 years 🌲Boost local ecosystems by providing food and shelter for wildlife Thanks to the growth team for putting #EcologicalTransformation into action. 💚 #Sustainability #Biodiversity #EcologicalTransformation #NativePlants

  • 💧 We’d like to share a congratulations to our NZ water team who earned awards at the New Zealand Water Conference recently! This included a project award for a technology upgrade at the Te Kauwhata Wastewater Treatment Plant, and the Best Paper award for our work on membrane aerated biofilm reactor technology at the Helensville Wastewater Treatment Plant. We also saw success with our team being invited to present at the conference – Evan Vaughters discussed carbon accounting guidelines for wastewater treatment, while Nadine Orschmann, Emma Cross, and Bronson Light presented innovative approaches to wastewater treatment. Our NZ Country Director, Emma Brand, also contributed to meaningful discussions on emergency management and women's leadership in the water sector. This conference, where Veolia was a Premier Partner, highlighted the importance of collaboration amid a critical period for the sector. We are always committed to leveraging our global expertise and partnering with business, community and political leaders to deliver the best outcomes in Aotearoa New Zealand. Congratulations again to all involved!

  • Come and meet our water Network Services team at the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) conference! Together they work alongside councils to support positive environmental policy and action, which is an important part of what we do. Across our water services, we provide expertise in managing water, wastewater and stormwater networks, solving issues ― such as blockages, leaks, pipeline deterioration ― and support extending waste asset lifespans. By ensuring infrastructure is fully functional and optimised, businesses and individuals can feel safe knowing their water needs are being met. We're excited to have the opportunity to talk with council members, industry folks and community members about how we can work together to create healthier environments that benefit the community and the economy. If you’re at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, come see us (and our steam truck) at booth 65!

We are thrilled to share with you our first #NetZero roadmap for Veolia Australia & New Zealand! This report illustrates our plans to reach Net Zero by 2050 or sooner, aligning to the 1.5 Degree Paris Agreement targets for global warming. Net Zero means balancing the amount of greenhouse gas (#GHG) that is produced and removed from the atmosphere. As an organisation, achieving it requires us to first reduce our emissions to the maximum, and then neutralise residual emissions. To do our bit, we're decarbonising essential services across waste, water, and energy. Our key commitments are: ➡️ 50% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions against our 2021 baseline by 2032 ➡️ 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions against our 2021 baseline by 2032 ➡️ Net zero emissions by 2050 As the largest environmental services provider in the ANZ region, we're committed to leading by example. You can read our full roadmap here: https://lnkd.in/gynqemt2

  • Our state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility (#MRF) in Spreyton, Tasmania, is in the final stages of its commissioning process and while we are yet to reach practical completion, the facility is set to lead the state towards achieving its 80% #recycling rate goal by 2030. ♻️ This site will process 20,000 tonnes of recyclables annually, serving over 100,000 Tassie households. Its cutting-edge technology includes automatic recognition machinery, laser optical identification with air jets to separate plastics, and magnetic currents to extract metals. This innovation will improve the quality and purity of recyclable materials, ultimately saving water, energy, and costs. It's a win-win for the environment and the economy! We’re so proud of our Spreyton team, our customers and participating councils for helping us bring this project to life. Want to see some of our tech in action? Our CEO Richard Kirkman took WIN Television around the facility. Check it out below. 👇 Video credit: WIN TV News Tasmania

  • Would you drink recycled potable water? We’re sure it comes as no surprise that we would. It's interesting how the concept of water recycling carries a negative stigma, despite the fact that nature has been doing it for eons through the water cycle. Modern water treatment processes, such as the technology we use at Veolia, can clean water to standards that exceed even what comes from our taps! Recycled potable water is highly regulated, and in many regions, it's the only source of clean drinking water. In Australia, where water is a precious resource, we often forget about recycling options when dams are full. But with our high per capita consumption and inevitable droughts on the horizon, embracing recycled potable water is essential for our future. Would you be on board? Let us know! #WaterSustainability #RecycledWater
