For years now, at our REdiscovery Hub in Swanbank, QLD, we've been taking kids on an eye-opening tour of a functioning landfill and encouraging them to think about their own role in reducing waste. Can you remember to bring your re-usable water bottle? Eat all the food in your lunch so you don't waste food? Talk to your family about how to reduce, re-use and recycle? After some keen debate, kids take their pick, and add their bottle cap to our pledge wall. With over 1,000 kids visiting us each year, our pledge wall is a showstopper. This #NationalRecyclingWeek, it's a colourful reminder of the choices we make, and the work to be done. _ Planet Ark #workingforthefuture

Today we welcomed 39 new colleagues to REMONDIS Australia with the acquisition of Speciality Services QLD – a thriving water and waste management business located in Chinchilla, in the Darling Downs region of Queensland. Highly respected former owner Declan Cummins remains on board, along with his expert team, so it’s a seamless shift which will only add to the services on offer to the region. REMONDIS Speciality Services will continue to offer water portage, liquid waste management, vacuum excavation and non-destructive digging, drill rig support, industrial cleaning and location of underground utilities, plus solid waste collection, recycling and equipment hire. It’s a diverse suite of services designed for rural residential and small business needs, and the specialised requirements of the region’s mining, oil and gas industries. Shane Merry is at Wagga Wagga this week, attending and presenting at the Rural & Regional Waste Management Conference, #NoTimeToWaste2024. The conference, organised by the Riverina Eastern Regional Organisation of Councils (#REROC), is all about waste avoidance and resource recovery, naturally. Shane was invited to speak about our collaboration with the ACT Government to provide recycling and resource recovery services at the facilities we manage for the territory. Shane was delighted to talk about the partnership model which is enabling recycling and improved diversion rates, including collaborations with St Vincent de Paul Society Australia, ReGroup, Green Technology Recycling and Soft Landing. We love talking about the work we do in the ACT, and the relationships that bring in new ideas and innovative solutions, every day.

When we publish our annual Sustainability Report, it's the last stage in a collaborative process of analysis, review and reflection. In 2023 REMONDIS Australia met the majority of the targets we set ourselves, including world-first innovation in fleet decarbonisation, plus investments in resource recovery infrastructure, Indigenous collaborations and the wellbeing and safety of our people. We celebrate these successes, and we're also transparent about the targets we didn't quite reach, and why. Through this process of review and reflection our ambition grows and sharpens. Drumroll please, as we announce that Sarah Collins is a Finalist for the Woman of Waste Award in the 2024 Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards. As Resource Recovery Manager for REMONDIS Australia in Queensland, Sarah works across three sites (Swanbank, Rocklea and Northgate) and multiple facilities (including landfill, transfer station, water processing plant) to manage operations and increase resource recovery outcomes. Sarah has held a variety of roles within the sector, largely at Theiss Services and then REMONDIS, including management roles in resource recovery, project management, HSEQ, acquisition integration, business development and, earlier in her career, as estimator and business systems manager. Sarah holds a swag of tertiary qualifications and industry certifications and is a highly valued friend, mentor and advocate for her colleagues and our industry.
