🌏 The CSDDD mandates companies to have a climate transition plan in place. Few companies have such plans, and even fewer have one that meets the requirements.   The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (#CSDDD) complements #CSRD by requiring large companies to conduct due diligence and mitigate adverse environmental and human rights impacts. In addition, CSDDD requires companies to adopt and deploy a plan for climate change mitigation that aligns with UN’s 1.5°C mitigation pathway and EU’s net zero target.   In this how-to guide, Ole, Principal and Head of the Climate team at Nordic Sustainability and Matteo, Consultant in our Climate team, unpack the CSDDD and provide insights into how businesses can accelerate the adoption of a climate transition plan.   Discover our key strategies to effectively develop and deploy your climate transition plan ➡ https://lnkd.in/dr_S24cP   #CorporateSustainability #ClimateAction #ESG

This is techy, but worth a read if you're the sort of person who lies awake at night debating whether it's better to emit carbon now or in the future - and how to quantity the difference. 👀 #carbon #wholelifecarbon #embodiedcarbon #time

The Climate dictionary- worth spreading, I guess…

How do you define net zero? And what about carbon removal? UNDP published their first ever Climate Dictionary, providing an everyday guide to understanding #ClimateChange jargon. It aims to bridge the gap between complex scientific terminology, and the general public, making climate concepts accessible and relatable to everyone. This is how the document defines 𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐨: "𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘦𝘵 𝘻𝘦𝘳𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 (𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦, 𝘣𝘺 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘣 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘹𝘪𝘥𝘦) - 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘣𝘺 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦." Educator, systems thinker, partner and alliance builder for the future of a living Earth and human culture

Without a systems lens, the full reality of the human predicament will never be understood. It is only when we adopt this kind of holistic, wide-boundary thinking that we are able to see the complexity and nuance of how the biosphere, geopolitics, economics, energy, and many other systems interplay with and influence one another. But historically, the scientific community didn’t utilize the power of systems thinking until a few groundbreaking individuals advanced and popularized that way of looking at the world. Today, I'm joined by one of the great systems thinkers, physicist and deep ecologist Fritjof Capra, to explore how his worldview has been shaped by his decades of work in physics, ecology, and community development – and his conclusions that addressing our ecological and  social crises will require a broader shift in our values and philosophies. Watch: https://lnkd.in/gMMk8K-J How are science and spirituality deeply entangled, despite often being falsely separated in modern culture? How would our ideas of consciousness change if we understood the interconnectedness of all life, and our place within it? What could our societies look like if we emphasized the importance of maintaining deeper relationships with the natural world, and prioritized human wellbeing over economic growth? "Our conclusion is no, it actually makes climate change worse," says John Sterman, a professor at MIT Sloan School of Management and member of the #ClimatePathwaysProject. A recent article in Nature sheds light on the dynamics of bioenergy, which can lead to higher near-term levels of CO2 due to emissions from burning wood and the lengthy regrowth periods of trees. It's crucial that we prioritize effective climate solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible. 🪵🌡️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/evYdWkuF

Sustainability Due diligence - is it human rights or environmental specific? Is it a one off process or ongoing? How do I deal with the complexity? How does it apply to my company? Sustainability due diligence is not a new concept but the CSRD, CSDDD, SFDR and EU Taxonomy has brought it to the forefront. But what it is and what it is not is continuing to cause confusion

  • It is vital to include Scope 3 emissions within reporting and target setting. But it can be hard when data is not available. At Viable Pathway we are helping firms overcome this challenge, by providing a database of industry benchmarks to get you started with a rough estimate for Scope 3, which you can fine tune as you collect data.

When it comes to tackling climate change, CEOs continue to overlook emissions in their supply chain. So-called Scope 3 emissions typically account for 26 times more carbon than a company’s own operations. Yet only 15 per cent of corporates have set upstream Scope 3 targets. https://lnkd.in/e4aAFBnm
