This year’s CBD Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) came with a special announcement: Melbourne will host the Special Olympics Australia National Games in 2026! 🎉 For those who don’t know, LETR is the largest grassroots awareness and fundraising vehicle for Special Olympics. The LETR raises money and awareness for Special Olympics Victoria, which supports people with intellectual disabilities to participate in sport. The torch run is also a way for Victoria Police members, many who donate money from their wage, to show their support for Special Olympics athletes. This year alone, LETR has raised $392,436! Thank you to employees, participants and volunteers who banded together to celebrate International Day of People with a Disability by participating in this year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run. #LawEnforcementTorchRun #SpecialOlympics #VictoriaPolice #Fundraising #CommunityPolicing

About us
Victoria Police was established in 1853. It provides policing services to the Victorian community 24 hours a day, seven days a week, working to keep more than 6 million Victorians safe. Police officers and Protective Services Officers (PSOs) are supported in their roles by public service professionals who work as administrators, managers, and specialists in a range of functions such as legal services, accounting, psychology and forensic sciences. Our workforce is expanding with the recruitment of more than 3000 police, 100 PSOs and the introduction of the Supervising Police Custody Officer role. Victoria Police is an inclusive, equal-opportunity employer that values employees’ skills and experience. We offer flexible, challenging and rewarding careers that make a real difference to the community. Effective frontline response service delivery is provided through 54 Police Service Areas (PSAs), split across 21 divisions within four regions - North West Metro, Southern Metro, Eastern, and Western. These regional boundaries correspond with those of other Victorian government departments, enhancing cross-department service delivery, particularly in the area of emergency management. Last week, we joined Victoria Police and former participants at Police Academy for an event to celebrate the achievements of the Victoria Police Diversity Recruitment Program, which sadly ended earlier this year. Since 2018, the program has supported 246 participants representing 56 cultures, with 105 successfully passing the Victoria Police Entrance Exam. It was wonderful to see the diverse group who have now graduated as Police members. Designed to increase the representation of underrepresented cultural communities within the Victoria Police recruitment process, VPDR played a significant - and in many cases critical role in assisting diverse candidates through the recruitment process. “When the police force looks like the community it serves, the cultural experiences are often shared and communication between the two parties is more effective. You make a stronger team.” - Constable Marie-Eve Henry, former participant. The program was delivered by Jesuit Social Services, Victoria Police and Victoria University with support from Africause, MatchWorks, Maurice Blackburn Lawyers and AMES Australia.

To operate a range of serious and organised criminal activities, outlaw motorcycle gangs (OMCG) rely on one thing: fear. On Season 2, Episode 4 of our podcast ‘Police Life: The Experts’, Detective Senior Sergeant Justin Mercovich details the phone tap that takes down a ranking Rebels bikie, Matthew ‘Matt Tatts’ Bruce. Throughout the investigation, the trigger-happy bikie sees himself untouchable, but his arrogance leads him to the Echo Taskforce - a Crime Command team dedicated to organised crime. Episode 4 ‘Franchise of fear’ is out today, wherever you get your podcasts. Listen now 🎧 https://bit.ly/42OvrCC #PoliceLifePodcast #CrimePodcast #Podcast #VictoriaPolice #TheExperts #PolicePodcast

Look who graduated 🥰🎓 Eight of our police dogs recently graduated after completing their training with their handlers. The graduating class included a mix of general purpose and specialist detection dogs. A couple of our officers were also recognised for their service: 💙 Leading Senior Constable Jason Nowakowski for 10 years of service with Victoria Police. 💙 Leading Senior Constable Rhett Rattray for 15 years of service with Victoria Police. 💙 Leading Senior Constable Ryan Porter was awarded a special commendation for his role in helping a person trapped in a car on a steep embankment. The Dog Squad community, including the breeders and handlers' family, even got to see some of the dogs in action. Congratulations to the police dogs and their handlers on graduating and wishing them all the best for their careers ahead!

When it comes to the timeframe for survival, consider the Rule of Threes: 3 hours for shelter, 3 days for water, 3 weeks for food. Eleven-year-old Luke Shambrook went missing in rugged bushland for five days. Against all odds, and with the tireless efforts of the Search and Rescue Squad, emergency services and volunteers, Luke was found alive. ‘Looking for Luke’ is the latest episode from our official podcast, Police Life: The Experts.
