Calling all leaders—let’s make a difference together! It was an absolute privilege to be invited by Charlie Spendlove and the team at Vinnies Victoria to speak alongside distinguished leaders at The CEO Institute, in front of 250 of Australia’s top CEOs. In my presentation, I issued a challenge: join me at this year’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout. This is more than just one night in the cold—it’s about stepping up as leaders to raise awareness and funds for the thousands of Australians experiencing homelessness. Together, we can drive real change. 19th of June, 2025 - Join me for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, and let’s make a difference together. 👉 Click the link in the comments to learn more about the sleepout, or see where you can donate. #CEOSleepout #Leadership #Impact #Community #Vinnies

Vinnies CEO Sleepout: a chance to give back At today’s NSW Summit, it was wonderful to hear from Vinnies CEO Yolanda Saiz and CEO Sleepout Ambassador Joe Hilderbrand about the annual Vinnies CEO Sleepout and the invaluable services it helps fund. In its 20th year, the Sleepout will host 1200 business leaders sleeping out across Australia. Throughout those 20 years, the Sleepout has raised close to $100M for homeless Australians, a phenomenal figure. Those precious funds have helped Vinnies deliver on its core business – human dignity. Donations directly assist people experiencing homelessness and people at risk of homelessness by: ▪️ Funding new initiatives. ▪️ Ensuring existing homeless services, like food vans and emergency support, continue. ▪️ Expanding the reach of our existing programs to ensure every Australian can access accommodation, meals, and emergency assistance when they need it. The CEO Institute is a huge supporter of the CEO Sleepout, and each state sends a group of members to help raise these important funds. We strongly encourage you to get involved. Last Friday, on a grey and rainy morning in Sydney, four members of the 2024 Vinnies CEO Sleepout Deep Sleeper Club—from Xavier Advertising, Consep Pty Ltd, Dovetail, and Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure—visited the Matthew Talbot Hostel and Ozanam Learning Centre in Woolloomooloo, Sydney. The "Deep Sleeper Club" includes leaders who have raised significant funds for the CEO Sleepout, which supports vital services like this one. During the tour of the community center and temporary accommodation for men, the group got a close-up look at how their fundraising efforts make a real impact. From providing meals and beds to offering therapeutic art and music classes, life skills training, and access to on-site medical care, they saw the difference their support helps create for those at risk of or already homeless. Help us break the cycle of homelessness. Register today: https://lnkd.in/gJqJkzQ #homelessnessawareness #ceosleepout #vinnies

You might have heard Garry’s story. He’s an impressive fellow! Garry is a teacher and a leader in his community. And right now, he’s studying for his PhD. But seven years ago, it was something that Garry couldn’t imagine having the courage to do. After a dramatic life event, Garry fell into an overwhelming depression. He was mentally, physically and emotionally paralysed. Little by little, he lost everything—his business, his income, and eventually, his family home. With nothing left, Garry began living in his car. Like so many people who suddenly find themselves without a home, Garry felt like he had nowhere to turn. Embarrassed and ashamed, he told no one. One day, Garry made a call to a homelessness service that would change his life. He didn't know what urged him to reach out, but it was his last option and he hoped Vinnies could help. He was offered a room at one of Vinnies' crisis accommodation centres, Ozanam House. More than just food and accommodation, Ozanam House offers comprehensive personal support including medical care, art therapy and a judgement-free space. For Garry, it was the additional support he didn’t know he needed. Over time, he rediscovered a sense of purpose and found his way out of homelessness. That’s the power of your support. With the money you raise through the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, more vulnerable people like Garry can get the care they need. Thank you. Today, Garry is optimistic about his future. And thanks to you, more people will be able to say the same. #homelessnessawareness #vinnies #ceosleepout

In 2023, Jarrod came to Freeman House in Armidale to get support for his alcoholism. He was in such a bad state that he didn't last his first evening, being rushed to the ER. Freeman House offers a voluntary residential rehabilitation service that provides support to adults and families who wish to address complex issues associated with their use of alcohol and/or other drugs (AOD). Treatment at Freeman House includes a program of group and individual AOD interventions, education and skills building, therapeutic activities, physical and mental health supports and wrap-around family support. The program is typically 3-12 months, inclusive of a transitional phase that encourages vocational pursuits, social connection, and practical application of the skills learnt to foster a successful transition into community living. Ahead of the first NSW Drug Summit in 25 years, beginning with regional forums today, St Vincent de Paul Society NSW invited Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) 7.30 to see the demand for services and hear directly from people accessing support. Freeman House in Armidale provides residential rehabilitation and detoxification support, along with day programs for people in the community trying to address substance dependency and usage. One of the biggest factors impacting people trying to access support is funding. “That’s what we’re seeing across the state with a lot of different services is that nothing is at full capacity because the funding doesn’t reach full capacity,” said Jessica Toole, Health Services Regional Manager. Sharmain is one of the people currently undergoing treatment at Freeman House – we were privileged to share her story with 7.30. Our Vinnies Housing Plus team attended the Anti-Poverty Week Gala at Government House in Perth earlier this month, joining hundreds of others for ‘Listening Day,’ a powerful initiative focused on raising awareness about poverty in WA. Running from 13-21 October, Anti-Poverty Week aims to increase understanding of how poverty affects individuals, families, and communities, and encourages collective action to end it. The teddy bear display represented 100 children, with 14 living below the poverty line here in Australia — an important reminder of the challenges faced by vulnerable families.
