Help Us Map our Music Industry: Take the Survey! The Victorian Music Development Office and RMIT University are researching roles and skills in Victoria’s music industry. If you do any paid work relating to music we would love to get your input! It will take 10-15 minutes to fill out a short, anonymous survey, and you can go in the draw to win 1 of 5 $100 vouchers as a thank you for your time. Why are we doing this research? There is currently a lack of information about the size, composition and workings of the creative supply chain in Victoria. The COVID-19 pandemic had serious repercussions for the music industry in Victoria, and anecdotally has led to an overall skills shortage, particularly in support (non-artist) roles. However, even prior to COVID, a full picture of the roles that exist in Victorian music industries and their associated skill sets did not exist. This skills mapping activity will be important in creating a fuller picture of what the industry looks like, and what pathways may exist between different roles in the industry. Take the survey now: https://lnkd.in/gFDVVVxz #RMIT #VMDO #VictorianBusinesses #CreativeVictoria #VictorianMusicIndustry #RolesAndSkills #Survey

Victorian Music Development Office (VMDO) reposted this
There wasn’t a dry eye in the room when Kankawa Nagarra was announced as the winner of the 2024 SOUNDMERCH Australian Music Prize for her debut album ‘Wirlmarni’. The 80-year-old Walmatjarri Elder, teacher and human rights advocate’s heartfelt album captivates listeners with its blend of Aboriginal Australia blues, country and gospel styles, infused with her personal story. The record has been thousands of years in the making, containing the sounds of the nature and people in Wangkatjungka, a remote Aboriginal community in northern Western Australia. Congratulations to Kankawa Nagarra, the shortlisted artists and all of the records (over 600!) which were submitted to the Australian Music Prize. We’re so proud to support the Australian Music Prize through their Amp’d Up campaign, to amplify the stories of our artists and celebrate Australian music. There are so many more incredible organisations, and we thank you for your work and contributions to our industry. Celebrating Vic Businesses for #AusMusicMonth 🎶 To wrap up November, we are spotlighting the Music in Exile and The Social Studio Organization team. 🙌 Music in Exile is a not-for-profit record label and artist services organisation aimed at increasing access to resources and building professional networks for artists from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds working in the music industry. The Social Studio is a group of Melbourne community members, local designers and fashion industry professionals joined together with a common idea: to embrace up-cycled fashion as a vehicle for social change and uplift youth from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Both incredible organisations recently collaborated to create one very special tee. MIE designers Liz Luby & Rochelle Oh hosted a beautiful workshop with Social Studio students to create this shirt. https://lnkd.in/g7X6X7UT #VicBusinesses #MusicInExile #SocialStudio #MusicAustralia #VMDO #CreativeVictoria #CreativeAustralia #CreativeState #VicMusic
