Riverina Winegrape Growers CEO Jeremy Cass has penned an open letter to the NSW State and Federal Governments, calling for urgent assistance to save wine production in the region, voicing concern that the region could be facing the end of its days as a wine producer. “We are fielding questions from the government on modern slavery, but our growers aren’t making enough to survive, let alone have employees,” said Cass. The Australian wine industry is mourning the sudden loss of Peter Muscet, who passed away last week. Peter Muscet was editor in chief of Australian Wine Showcase Magazine, a publication focussing on the promotion of Australian wines to the domestic and global market, which he launched in 2010. Friends and colleagues remember him as 'boundlessly enthusiastic'. “Peter Muscet was more than a respected figure in the wine industry—he was a cherished friend and a beacon of joy to all who had the privilege of knowing him," said Priscilla Hennekam. Phil Reedman, who wrote for Peter at Wine Showcase, described him as "boundlessly cheerful, generous with his time and knowledge - a great supporter and promoter of the Australian wine industry." Iain Riggs AM has been announced as the new chair of the Bleasdale Vineyards board, taking over the position from Robert Edwards. A new national network harnessing the energy of young grape and wine professionals has been launched, aiming to foster the next generation of talent in Australia’s wine sector. Never-before-seen protections for organic consumers and the promise of lucrative new export markets for producers are among the benefits of proposed legislation introduced to Federal Parliament on Wednesday. The National Organic Standard Bill, a Private Senators’ Bill tabled by The Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie would, if passed, make Australia the final country in the OECD - OCDE to create a legal definition of the word “organic”. https://lnkd.in/gvQ4m-2T
