The voice for women's health and wellbeing. Authorised by Lauren Anthes on behalf of Women’s Centre for Health Matters
About us
Women’s Health Matters is an independent, non-partisan think tank that works to improve the health and well-being of women in the ACT and surrounding region. Our core business is evidence-based social research, policy development, advocacy and health promotion. We are regarded as the voice for women’s health and well being in the ACT. Our work is used by governments, policy makers and peak bodies to design, improve and deliver services and responses specific to the needs of women. We identify current and emerging issues impacting women’s health and well being and develop evidence-based solutions to close the gaps. Because women do health differently, our research and advocacy is informed by women for women. We bring their stories to the decision-making table.

The new survey of women’s health in the ACT is available now! Help us make women’s health visible and go into the draw to win one of three $100 vouchers. You do not have to have completed the first survey to do this one. The survey takes a snapshot of women’s health in the ACT, so new and repeat responders are equally welcome! The survey is open to all women and femme-identifying people, and anyone who aligns themselves with these groups, as long as they are 18 years or older and live in the ACT or surrounding region. The survey is a chance to share your experiences and help us keep working to improve women’s health and wellbeing in the ACT. Abortion is healthcare. Say it with us - abortion is healthcare. Every person in the ACT is entitled to fundamental reproductive rights and access to healthcare services. Abortion is a safe and common medical procedure to end a pregnancy. Abortion is free at specific GP practices and health services if you live, work or study in the ACT. Abortion is free even if you are an international student or on a temporary visa. You do not need to have a Medicare card. Head to our My Pregnancy Options ACT website to find out more or to find a service 👉 https://lnkd.in/g-ERSs7m

It can feel uncomfortable to talk about sexual and reproductive health, even with a doctor. But it’s more than just sex or reproductive organs—it’s about understanding your body, relationships, consent, periods, and contraception. Knowing about your health is important, whether or not you're sexually active or plan to have children. Accessing non-judgmental, supportive care helps you stay in control. Through the Health in My Language program, our educators provide information on: • Contraception options • Safer sex • Pregnancy choices • Menopause For more details or to attend a session, please contact a.khan@womenshealthmatters.org.au

In our 2022-23 Survey of Women's Health in the ACT we asked people to share with us their experiences of pregnancy, birth, and parenting. The experiences shared with us allowed us to provide input into improvements in maternal health care in the ACT. Check it out! 👇 The next edition of the survey will be out in November - so keep an eye out! In the meantime you can visit our website to find out more! #SurveyofWomensHealthintheACT

October is World Menopause Month and today is World Menopause Day. Menopause and perimenopause are natural phases in life, but they can feel really overwhelming and challenging – especially without access to the right information or support. This year’s theme for the month is ‘Menopause: Be prepared, not scared’ and we couldn’t agree more. At Women's Health Matters, we offer free health information sessions to help you understand the changes, symptoms, and how to manage them in order to embrace this new chapter confidently. You’re not alone. Let’s break the silence together and be prepared, not scared. To join or request a session, email a.khan@womenshealthmatters.org.au #WorldMenopauseDay #WorldMenopauseMonth2024 #HealthEducation #MenopauseSupport #Menopauseawareness
