The education provider has a modern, holistic approach to work, and this is an excellent role for an established and experienced accountant to progress in your career. This role sees you working within a tight-knit business services team, working as a senior stakeholder within the school.

Your new role

This is a 'full-service' and stand-alone accounting position for the organisation. This means you will lead all accounting, compliance, debt collection, and financial regulation aspects from start to finish, and be the face of the accounting and finance team.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Manage all accounts payable and accounts receivable - including managing debtor/creditor relations and chasing late payments in a timely manner.
  • Conduct weekly budget reviews, forecasts, and reporting matters to a high standard, often taking the time to liaise with board and committee members.
  • Maintain all areas of financial accounting for the school, including bank account and credit card reconciliation and capturing of appropriate support.
  • Manage regular payroll for the organisation from start to finish, which is for roughly 60 staff across the school.
  • Conduct and advise on taxation matters when required, such as BAS, FBT, PRT preparations.
  • Assist with an efficient budget and forecasting process, whilst working closely with the business manager to ensure
  • Maintain a clean balance sheet and input all compliance correctly.
  • Identify ways to further enhance and streamline the finance function for the organisation.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to be considered for this role, you will:

  • Be a qualified accountant (CPA or CA, or relevant overseas qualification), or be qualified by experience.
  • Ideally, have a minimum of 5 years accounting experience from a similar reputable organisation - ideally (but not essential) from an education, NFP, or public sector background.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Xero is highly desirable).
  • Be able to manage all processes within a small but busy finance function, including start-to-finish payroll, AP, AR, reporting, budgets, forecasting, management and financial accounting work.
  • Show strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of liaising with internal and external stakeholders, conflict management, and explaining complex financial information in simple terms.
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to work with the ability to take on further tasks when required, along with strong customer service skills with the ability to solve problems.
  • Have a high standard of presentation, communication, and be a good team player in a medium-sized business.

What you'll get in return

This role offers a competitive all-round package for the right person. This includes:

  • Salary between $100,000 to $110,000 plus superannuation (with some flexibility depending on your experience).
  • 5 weeks of annual leave, which would ideally be taken over education holidays, along with 15 days of sick leave annually.
  • You will have full ownership and extensive exposure to all finance processes within the organisation, which offers excellent career development opportunities.
  • Free parking on site, which is based in Melbourne's Eastern Suburbs.
  • This role is a full-time office role, although there is scope for some flexible work following the completion of probation.
