Your Role:
The Underwriter is responsible for meeting production and profitability targets by underwriting new business, endorsement changes or renewals, where appropriate based on underwriting criteria issued by the Personal Lines Department. In addition, the Underwriter is expected to build relationships with new producers and / or continue to service existing producers if allocations are noted on the individual’s annual goals.
This is a 12 month fixed term contract.
Your Responsibilities:
Major duties/responsibilities are detailed in the individual’s annual goals. These goals may include items such as:
- Monitor profitability of portfolio and provide constructive feedback on steps to improve if required
- Evaluate, accept or decline new business, endorsements or renewal business based on underwriting guidelines
- Collate underwriting information and refer risks outside the scope of authorities issued or the underwriting guidelines to the Unit Manager with recommendations
- Monitor competitors’ products and recommend changes to our wording to sustain competitive advantage
- Where applicable, establish and build new relationships with potential producers (or refer to DUs) who have prospective business that meets our underwriting guidelines
- Monitor work loads and advise Unit Managers if assistance is required due to exceptional circumstances, i.e. seasonal business loads or personal vacation
- Assist brokers with product and business queries
- Assist colleagues and Managers with product and business queries
- Assist members of the appraisal section with any queries
- Assist members of the claims department with any queries
- Undertake practical measures to ensure that the workplace is safe and without risk to health
- If and when required assist in coordinating producer functions
- Assist in general department matters when required
- Work with staff members in other departments to identify cross marketing opportunities as and when required
Experience:
- Strong written and oral communication, including a professional phone manner
- Demonstrated underwriting skills
- Negotiation and marketing skills
- Organisational and analytical skills
- Policy documentation, including terms and conditions
- Underwriting policy practice
- Understanding the appraisal services
- Front-End, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Product range in the Personal Lines Department
- Understanding the underwriting appetite of other Departments
- Insurance industry and Chubb’s position in the market
