By joining the Air Force as Mission, you’ll be part of a highly skilled team, with a keen focus on the skies and making key decisions in challenging environments. You’ll be trained to become a world-class leader, manager and decision maker, operating some of the most advanced aircraft and aviation systems in the world.

Mission is made up of the below 5 roles. Your duties will depend on which role you’re chosen for:

  • Air Battle Manager: Command and control the airspace above airfields and battlefields using your quick thinking and decision-making skills to direct aircraft from the ground or the air.
  • Air Mobility Officer: Operate advanced airborne surveillance and logistical systems during air battles, keeping critical assets refuelled and providing essential support to air mobility operations.
  • Air Traffic Controller: Take command of the skies in an exciting career similar to a civilian Air Traffic Controller role but with challenging extra dimensions unique to battlefield aerial environments. Maritime Patrol and Response Officer: Operate some of the world’s most advanced airborne electronic systems, working in maritime patrol and response, or critical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
  • Weapon Systems Officer: Operate sophisticated airborne electronic and weapon systems from some of the world’s fastest fighter aircraft, or manage air combat or electronic warfare missions.

Mission is part of the Officer Aviation career specialisation, which is a group of air and ground-based aviation roles that sit within 2 pathways: Mission and Pilot. You find out which career pathway and role you’ve been chosen for as your application progresses, which is based on a combination of your job preference, performance and position availability.
