Located in the Belen district of Lisbon, Portugal, it is an outstanding Renaissance building built in 1501 and ordered by Manuel I to commemorate the discovery of the Indian route by Da Gama. The monastery adopts the Manuel style, combining late Gothic architecture and nautical elements. The exterior and interior are gorgeously decorated and exquisitely carved. Da Gamma and the poet Camons are buried in St. Mary's Church in the monastery. The Monastery of Geronim is a symbol of the glorious history of Portugal's nautical era and was listed as a world cultural heritage in 1983.
