Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden, full name Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is located in Menglun Town, Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is an institution directly under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The botanical Garden was founded by the famous botanist Mr. Cai Xitao in 1959. It covers an area of about 1,125 hectares, collects more than 13,000 kinds of living plants, has 38 special plant areas, and preserves a primitive tropical rainforest with an area of about 250 square kilometers.It is the botanical garden with the largest area in China, the richest collection of species, and the largest number of special parks. It is also one of the botanical gardens in the world with the largest number of plant species preserved outdoors and the largest number of plant taxa displayed to the public.
Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden is not only a scientific research institution, but also a scenic spot and popular science education base.It has been rated as a national environmental protection science base, National science Popularization Education Base, National Youth Science and Technology Education Base, National AAAAA-level tourist scenic spot, China's Top Ten Science and Technology tourism Bases.
