2024 Yokohama Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in December)
Yokohama is the prefectural capital of Kanagawa. The prosperous city is full of a veritable forest of skyscrapers. It is known for its romantic night view. This busy modern port city has beautiful harbor views, Western architecture and the most lively Chinatown in Japan. Many Chinese visitors first come to stroll on the romantic beach front and then go to Chinatown to catch a taste of home. Because transportation between Yokohama and downtown Tokyo is extremely convenient, it is a good place for a day trip.

A nice park by the sea at Yokohama, Zou no Hana seaside Park
#parksandgardens #100waysoftravel
It was a nice sunny day at Yokohama, and I can't bear to let this nice weather off without going outside for some nice breeze, so I walked out of my hotel and take a stroll around the coastline of Yokohama Pier. There I reached this nice little seaside park called Zou no Hana Park, which means the Elephant Trunk Park. It spans approximately 3.3 hectares including the breakwater stretching. You can enjoy the nice sea breeze at the park, while having your lunch from the lunch box, and there is also a gallery for exhibition and also a coffee stand. This is a nice place for chilling especially for those working around that area.
The thousand flowers blossoming at Yamashita Park
#flowerblossom #100waysoftravel
Its autumn now and the skies are very blue, and this park located by the pier has seen flowers blooming and all spots. The speciality of Yamashita Park is the rose and cosmos flower. This park follows the style of the western Renaisaance Garden where there are statues and fountains in the park. You also see many people doing sketching and paiting at the park, and the blossoms of the flower makes that it possible to generate a very nice and colourful picture. Whats more, the cool weather also makes picnic possible so you see some couples, friends having picnic at the garden. There are also plenty of benches available for people to sit and relax. Truly a very nice experience indeed.
A nice pot of Sukiyaki at Yokohama, Araiya
#traveldiaries
I fel like having Sukiyaki so I headed to this shop called Araiya near Bashamichi, serving top grade Sukiyaki using A5 Wagyu. I opted for the A5 Wagyu set meal and they tasted excellently well, the meat is so tender, fresh and succulent, and coupled with other condiments like tofu and mushrooms, the dish is really comforting. You grab a piece of meat, dip it in raw egg and eat them with rice. You can opt to add in Udon after your meal to clear the soup with rich meat flavour. This is gonna be one of the best Sukiyaki shop at Yokohama and I will definitely come again.
An enjoyable Tempura experience at Hakata Tempura Takao
#traveldiaries
Tempura is a famous delicacy among the Japanese, and we really love the Tempura at this outlet called Hakata Tempura Takao, serving piping hot Tempura, in a rice set meal or rice bowl. First you choose the Tempura items from the menu, it comes with either set or ala- carte at your desire, and the chef will fry it and bring it to your counter, one by one if you order the set meal. The ingredients are very fresh and when you take a first bite after it is served, you will jump around shouting "hot hot hot" as the tempura served to you is piping hot. It is a very enjoyable exoerience and I will definitely visit again.
The stay at Breezbay Hotel during business trip
#traveldiaries
Back to Yokohama again for business trip and this time, the lodge is Breezbay Hotel Resort and Spa. This hotel is a little bit old but all amenities are available and best still, the room is very spacious. I booked a queen size room this time. Breakfast is normal but scumptious, and most importantly it is located rather near from Minato Mirai. The price is also rather reasonable compared to all other hotels around that area. Overall its a very good stay and I will come back here again.
A nice petite old residence cafe with many nice photospots at Enokitei, Yamate, Yokohama
#photolocation #100waysoftravel
Yokohama is a very nice place with many to offer, and Yamate area used to be the area where the foreigners settled. This old house called Enoki tei is a retro cafe with old English style house as a background. It offers homemade cakes, tea and coffee for visitors visiting the cafe. Since it is autumn so I have decided to sit outside the garden foyer. There is a huge tree to block the sunlight, and the autumn breeze is really soothing and comforting. I ordered the tea and cake set and they tasted heavenly, which made me believe that this is really homemade. It is really a lovely evening spent and I will definitely go again.
🇯🇵 Kayak on Yokohama Harbour
#kayak #100WaysOfTravel
The peaceful and calm Yokohama harbour is the best place for amateur to buckle up their balancing act. Here you can bring your own stand up paddle, kayak and inflatable raft and sail through it. It is ok to do it and the best time is in the early morning. You can avoid the crowd and the hot sun and the morning harbour is always the quietest. This place is scenic and you can see many iconic landmark such as the ferries wheel and Minato Mirai has excellent waterfront views. If you are staying at the hotels near here, be sure to ask for the harbour views.

Yokohama OKTOBERFEST: Beer, German Cuisine, Night Views, and a Lively Atmosphere!
Don't think that beer festivals only happen in Germany. Yokohama also hosts a vibrant one! Japan's largest beer festival, Yokohama OKTOBERFEST, is grandly held every year from late September to October at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse! Many locals make a special trip to visit, and foreign tourists also come to join in, creating an amazing and lively atmosphere.
In addition to tasting various beers, you can also enjoy German dishes like sausages and roast pork. This year, there's even a new pairing of beer with baked oysters!
At night, you can see the charmingly lit Red Brick Warehouse and the Yokohama night view. Plus, you can join in with locals singing German songs and dancing folk dances.
Best place to do shopping in Yokohama
#japantrip #travel #couplestrip #beachlife #staycation #naturalwonders
Very calming and peaceful, even on the weekends.Though many shops are not suitable for young people/ tourists, there is no doubt that you can enjoy a good cafe or shopping experience there.
Very interesting area to look around. Lots cafe, shops, restaurants, very trendy and young designed, lots of old hidden building.
Near the homes of rich European residents of Yokohama, this neighborhood displays mostly high end brands. It's still a nice place to take a stroll especially that they have nice illuminating decorations for the holidays.
one of the most magnificent views of the harbor
#japantrip #travel #couplestrip #beachlife #staycation
Quaint little park for you to stroll around or jog. Very nice observatory in top looking out to the city and ocean. You can see Gundam Factory from the observatory as well.
About 10 mins walk from Motomachi-Chukagainstation.
As the name, you can have a view of Yokohama port from the observatory spot.
beautifully preserved ocean liner from the 1920’s
#japantrip #travel #beachlife #naturalwonders #seascapes
This ship was fun, I love history so being able to step back in time was incredible, the design is similar to the old white star lines (titanic) which where built 10 or 20 years before this ship. It gave a good idea of what a ship back then would be like.
The tickets are cheap and the wait was not bad, so there's very little reason to not visit this amazing piece of history. The interior is restored tastefully and it does feel like you're witnessing close to its original state as possible. The signs and displays are informative and accomodate english tourists as well,
great museum to learn the history of Cup Noodles
#japantrip #travellerswonderland
#travel #couplestrip
The Cup Noodle museum is a fantastic experience that would take about two to three hours, and had the pull of fun and unique activities. Making your own cup noodle was the highlight, getting to both draw on the cup and fill your cup with ingredients. The food court is a great place to stop for lunch to grab a variety of noodles from different parts of Asia and Italy.
Make sure to make a custom cup ramen, also 500 yen, like the museum fee. Well worth it as a cool souvenir and experience.
Very affordable and fun activity for all
The Cosmo World amusement park roller coasters are "loop-tacular"!
Yokohama Cosmo World is divided into three zones and spread across both sides of the Ooka River's mouth. The less crowded area across the river from the ferris wheel offers a more relaxed atmosphere.
Location: Yokohama City, Kanagawa, Japan. It is very accessible.
There is no entrance fee which is good. You can enjoy relaxing while looking at the nice view of the sea or pay the rides you want to try.
The park features a quite variety of rides for all ages to thrilling attractions, along with live performances, games, and some dining options. Its picturesque waterfront setting, especially vibrant at night, adds to its appeal both as a family destination and a romantic spot for couples.

Hotels I've stayed at many times in Yokohama | Pier Design Hotel
| Pier Design Hotel. Recently stayed at the InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8 Hotel, and the overall experience was good, but there are some areas for improvement. The hotel's location is excellent, especially the sea view rooms by the port, the scenery is indeed satisfying 🌊. The room faces the port directly, with sailboats docking at night ⛵, accompanied by the port lights, the scenery is serene and beautiful.
The room's interior design is modern and minimalist, with enough space, especially the large floor-to-ceiling windows that provide good lighting and views 🌅. The bed is fairly comfortable, but the pillows are a bit hard, not quite to my liking. The bathroom is well-equipped, but the water pressure is slightly insufficient, especially when using the shower, the water flow feels not strong enough 🚿.
Speaking of drawbacks, service quality is one of them. The attitude of the front desk reception was a bit cold 😕, seemingly lacking enthusiasm. Although the efficiency was good, the overall service experience was mediocre, lacking the kind of meticulous care that leaves a lasting impression.
The rooftop terrace of the hotel is a highlight 🏙️, where you can overlook the entire port, especially suitable for a walk and relaxation in the evening or at night. The view here is very open, making it a great place for photography and enjoying the scenery 📸.
As for transportation, the hotel is not very close to Yokohama subway station, it takes about 15-20 minutes to walk 🚶. If you have a lot of luggage or are in a hurry, you might consider taking a taxi 🚖. There are also some convenience stores and restaurants around, making life relatively convenient.
In terms of price, the sea view room is around 2000 RMB 💴, which is reasonable compared to other high-end hotels in Yokohama, but considering the cost-performance ratio of service and facilities, it is somewhat average.
Overall, the InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8 Hotel is suitable for travelers who like port scenery, especially those who have high visual experience requirements. Although there is room for improvement in service and details, it is still worth a try in terms of location and scenery. If you plan to stay, it is recommended to book early and choose a room on a higher floor to better enjoy the port scenery 🌅.
The beauty of Yokohama
#100waysoftravel
Did you know that Yokohama is actually Japan's second largest city with a population of over three million and is just less than half an hour south of Tokyo by train..
I did not get to explore Yokohama that much as my Japanese friend brought me on an impromptu visit hours before my flight back to Kuala Lumpur , so it was a rush trip but eyeopening and it also calls for another trip to Tokyo and Yokohama in future…

An afternoon tea delight at Lounge and Bar Marine Blue
#afternoonteatime
Situated within the Intercontinental Hotel Yokohama, Lounge and Bar Maeine Blue provides an exquisite experience for diners to enjoy their afternoon tea. There are wide selections od cakes, sandwiches or small bites available as a choice. We ordered the club sandwich and peppermint tea as a set, and they were prepared carefully before sending to us. This lounge is located by the pier and it provides a very nice view to the sea. Those who ordered coffee or tea have the choice to get them refilled. A highly recommended place to have afternoon tea.
Open-air Sky Pool in Yokohama.
Guests can use the pool for free. Depending on the time, reservations may be required at check-in, but there are also times when no reservation is needed. Photos are allowed in the pool, but videos are not. Being on a high floor overlooking the city of Yokohama, it offers a luxurious feeling.

The Special Nigiri 10-piece set for 2,200 yen was amazing.
This is Manbou, a famous standing sushi bar in Noge Food Alley. I ordered the no-wait set at 9 PM on a weekday. The reason for its popularity was clear from the quality of the ingredients. It's incredible to get such high-quality fish at this price. Highly recommended for Yokohama sightseeing.

Beautiful place with nice restaurant and so relaxing
There’s a couple of nice restaurants with terrace seats so if you are dressed warm enough. It is windy because it’s right by the sea although they have heaters set up, you need layers in winter. Highly recommended for dates and nice dinner with friends/coworkers, I’ve seen it’s a popular place for wedding.
This place is like entering charlie and the chocolate factory or a model T factory. You see the cooks making the products from scratch.
Great views and atmosphere in many of the restaurants.

Recommended to visit on weekdays or weekend
This place is a must visit if you’re in Yokohama. They have a few spots where you can sit and relax but it’s gets crowded at times so it can be hard to find an open seat.
They do have the history of this place on the wall in smaller building, be sure to check it it’s unique history.
A great shopping experience awaits those who have walked from Yokohama station, a closer station or an even closer cruise ship. One of only a few brick built buildings in Yokohama and definitely worth a visit. It also located near the sea, so the view is amazing

Geat atmosphere, fantastic place for shopping
Just a great day with the family. So many shops to look at.
It's such a wonderful venue for every tourist visiting Japan, Yokohama to be specific. Beautiful malls with a lot of good brand's shops inside.
From cheap to top dollar, so something for everyone’s budget. Visited during Pokémon Worlds and it was beautifully decorated

dark when we got to the tower
In my honest and personal opinion, this city is way better than Tokyo. Landmark Tower is fancy.
It has restos, high end shops and nearby tourist spots make scenic views from this vantage point.
Superb centrally located hotel within the Yokohama bay area, surrounded by many shopping areas and entertainment areas. The rooms are large and ultra clean.
I would highly recommend this place.

InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8
One of my top 5 favorite hotels in Japan that I've stayed at before, InterContinental Yokohama Pier 8🕊️🤍
The beautiful curved staircase at the entrance, the sophisticated design inspired by a ship's interior, the location with a panoramic view of Minato Mirai—after visiting again after a few years, this hotel is still absolutely stunning🫶🏼

Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal
The Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal, located at the Port of Yokohama, is a stunning example of modern architecture and a pivotal gateway for international cruise travelers visiting Japan. Completed in 2002 and designed by the renowned British architectural firm Foreign Office Architects, this terminal is celebrated for its unique design that combines functionality with aesthetic appeal.
One of the most remarkable features of the Osanbashi Terminal is its expansive open-air deck, known as the "Whale's Back." This deck, crafted from gently undulating wood, provides a spacious area for visitors to stroll, relax, and enjoy panoramic views. It offers unobstructed vistas of Yokohama's vibrant skyline, including iconic landmarks like the Yokohama Landmark Tower, the historic Red Brick Warehouses, and the futuristic Minato Mirai 21 district. The "Whale's Back" is not only a favorite spot for travelers awaiting their ships but also a beloved viewpoint for locals and tourists alike.
Inside the terminal, the design emphasizes fluidity and openness, with large, airy spaces that accommodate waiting areas, customs and immigration facilities, shops, cafes, and restaurants. The terminal's thoughtful layout ensures smooth passenger flow, enhancing the travel experience. The seamless integration of the terminal with the city's transportation network, including proximity to train and bus services, makes it an ideal entry point for exploring Yokohama and beyond.
The Osanbashi Terminal also serves as a cultural hub, frequently hosting events, exhibitions, and performances that reflect Yokohama's dynamic cultural scene. This blend of functionality and cultural activity makes the terminal a lively and engaging space.
Beyond the terminal itself, the Yokohama view from Osanbashi is unparalleled. As the sun sets, the skyline transforms, with buildings lighting up and reflecting off the waters of Tokyo Bay, creating a mesmerizing tableau. This view encapsulates the essence of Yokohama—a city where history, modernity, and natural beauty coexist harmoniously.
In summary, the Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal is more than just a port; it is a landmark that embodies the spirit of Yokohama. Its innovative design, comprehensive facilities, and breathtaking views make it a must-visit location for anyone traveling through or staying in Yokohama.
