Effect of redistricting

See also: Redistricting in California

Following California's redistricting, Garamendi was displaced from the 10th into the 3rd District.

According to the Washington Post, redistricting transformed the 3rd District into a swing district. While Garamendi's seat was formerly a safe one, the newly drawn district became a battleground for Republicans and Democrats fighting for control of the House.[152]
