Protecting and uplifting children is fundamental to Bangladesh’s sustainable development journey. Through the Bangladesh America Maitree Project, a USAID-funded initiative implemented by BRAC, FHI360, and BRAC USA, subgrantees are addressing critical challenges such as child marriage, safe spaces, and essential child welfare services. These locally-driven initiatives empower communities to create safe, nurturing environments for children living in vulnerability, ensuring their rights are upheld and their futures are secured. Organizations awarded under Child Rights and Protection include Breaking the Silence (BTS), Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK), JAAGO Foundation Trust, Resource Development Foundation (RDF), and Welfare Association for Development Alternative (WADA). For the full list of awarded organizations and their project goals, please visit this website: https://bit.ly/3Cz5aPs The five-year Bangladesh America Maitree Project will advance and facilitate locally-led development in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi development organizations will have access to vital funding in sectors like health, agriculture, and education and will have an opportunity to build capacity and a network for knowledge sharing. #WorkWithMAITREE #LocallyLedDevelopment

Recent studies reveal that 80% of women in garment factories, 74% of female students in educational institutions, 94% of women in public transport and 68% of women in online platforms, experience some sort of violence or harassment in Bangladesh. To tackle this overarching problem and ensure safe spaces for women across different sectors, BRAC is launching its ‘SHIKHA: Creating public and private spaces free from gender-based violence, bullying and sexual harassment through strengthening prevention and response mechanisms’- project, with support from the European Union and in partnership with Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) and Young Power in Social Action (YPSA). The SHIKHA project signing ceremony was held at the European Union Delegation Office in Dhaka where His Excellency Michael Miller, Ambassador and Head of Delegation, European Union and Asif Saleh, Executive Director, BRAC, were present. The project will work in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Barisal, Narayanganj and Rajshahi districts in 250 workplaces, 270 educational institutions, public places, digital platforms and with the Government of Bangladesh. #16daysofactivism

1 in 10 people around the world live in extreme #poverty, with millions more expected to join them due to crises like #climate change and conflict. But we know of evidence-based solutions that work, at scale - solutions that address social and economic barriers and enable people in extreme poverty to not only survive but thrive. By providing people with productive assets that generate income; basic needs support; and ongoing coaching that unlocks agency, know-how, and hope, this proven, big push approach now known widely as Graduation equips people to build a long-term trajectory out of poverty. Rigorous evidence from dozens of contexts suggests this two-year approach could enable hundreds of millions of people to escape poverty and build resilience for the long term - empowering families with lasting benefits for future generations. Given the magnitude of this issue, it is imperative that #governments are at the forefront of scaling such solutions. That is why it is a privilege for us to partner with governments across the world to incorporate this evidence-backed approach into existing programs to reach 21 million more people by 2030. BRAC was awarded a $5 million grant from Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to alleviate poverty in #Indonesia and the #Philippines through 2027. This catalytic investment will contribute to BRAC’s collaboration with the Governments of Indonesia and the Philippines to integrate the evidence-backed #Graduation approach into existing #poverty alleviation policies and programmes to achieve greater, more lasting impact. BRAC has been supporting the design, delivery, adaptation, and expansion of the Graduation approach alongside partners since it pioneered the approach in Bangladesh in 2002 when it learned its existing poverty programmes were not adequately reaching those furthest behind. With the DIV grant, BRAC will work alongside the Governments of Indonesia and the Philippines to build complementary Graduation interventions into existing government systems, leveraging already allocated resources to drive down overall costs while delivering highly effective poverty alleviation programmes. Over the next decade, BRAC plans to expand these efforts to reach millions more households and contribute to the national poverty alleviation goals of both countries. https://lnkd.in/e47-Tsek #development #USAID
