The Finance Ministry has approved BDT 637.80 crore to assist families of martyrs & injured protesters from the July uprising. Disbursement will begin on 10 January 2025, with grants provided in phases. Each martyr’s family will receive BDT 30 Lac, while BDT 290 crore is allocated for 15,000 injured individuals & BDT 100 crore for medical treatment. Further payments will be made after June from the next fiscal year’s budget.

The Energy & Mineral Resources Division has reduced the prices of diesel & kerosene by BDT 1 per litre, effective January 1. Diesel & kerosene will now cost BDT 104 per litre, down from BDT 105. Bangladesh Bank has extended emergency liquidity support totaling BDT 12,500 crore (approximately USD 1.25 billion) to three banks facing financial challenges. This intervention aims to stabilize the banks’ operations and maintain depositor confidence. The funds were provided under the central bank’s “lender of last resort” facility, allowing the banks to borrow at an interest rate of 8.75%. The banks are required to repay the loans within a short term, typically overnight, to ensure liquidity and financial stability.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has finalized the audit terms for Teletalk, marking the first-ever scrutiny of the state-owned mobile operator.
