We are pleased to share that the 2nd Upazila Sub-committee (UzSC) Meetings were successfully conducted at Chilmari and Ulipur Upazilas in Kurigram District under the Project for Capacity Enhancement on Formulation and Implementation of Local Disaster Risk Reduction Plan (LDRRP). This initiative is being implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) , developed by the Department of Disaster Management (#DDM), and carried out in consultation with Geo-Planning for Advanced Development (GPAD) Ltd. During the meetings, we: a. Presented the Risk Assessment Results b. Reviewed Hazard Maps for disaster-prone areas c. Discussed Countermeasures and Mitigation Strategies d. Proposed Disaster Risk Reduction (DDR) Targets, prioritized by the UzSC. These collaborative sessions are vital for empowering local communities to proactively address disaster risks through comprehensive planning and actionable measures. Excited to share that today, December 18, 2024, Geo-Planning for Advanced Development (GPAD) Ltd signed a contract with the Sustainable Agriculture Foundation (SAF) to undertake an important study as part of the NICE project! The study will focus on tracking the connection between agricultural production and urban markets (both formal and informal) within the context of a secondary city in Bangladesh. This initiative aims to provide valuable insights into market linkages that support sustainable urban and rural development. We are proud to announce that Mr. Nazbul H Khan will lead this study on behalf of the GPAD team. Looking forward to contributing to this impactful research and working closely with SAF to deliver meaningful outcomes!

We are thrilled to announce that today, 8 December 2024, we signed an agreement with Caritas Bangladesh for an impactful project titled "Developing Training Modules on Landslide Early Warning Systems (LEWS)." The project aims to strengthen disaster preparedness and resilience through the following objectives: ✅ Developing an online training module on Landslide Early Warning Systems (LEWS). ✅ Designing a specialized training module for community volunteer groups on Early Warning Systems (EWS). ✅ Creating a training module tailored for ward and union disaster management committees on LEWS. This initiative will be carried out in partnership with Urban Research Initiative and Geo-Planning for Advanced Development (GPAD) Ltd. 🌟 Building Capacity for IMIS Development and Deployment in Bangladesh 🌟 Excited to share that we participated in the Technical Training on IMIS Development and Deployment under the Strengthening Public Data Systems for Sanitation in Bangladesh (SPDSSB) initiative. This impactful program is being implemented by DPHE, Government of Bangladesh, and is generously funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Organized by: • ITN-BUET • Innovative Solutions Pvt Ltd, Nepal • GSWC, AIT Thailand This extensive, hands-on training focused on equipping participants with critical technical skills required for successful IMIS implementation in cities. The program provided a comprehensive understanding of: ✅ System Development Skills: • Linux server management with Ubuntu OS • Git version control • Docker containerization and Docker-Compose • Networking and firewall configuration • Shell scripting ✅ Database Administration & Maintenance: • PostgreSQL and its PostGIS extension ✅ GeoServer & GIS Data Handling: • GeoServer configuration • GIS data management ✅ Application Development & Customization: • PHP with Laravel framework • JavaScript, jQuery, and OpenLayers • RESTful API development • React Native for mobile applications The training also emphasized technical documentation, data migration, customization, and maintenance to ensure efficient deployment of the IMIS platform across cities in Bangladesh and Nepal.
