This morning in the RTR Conference, we had the chance to get the presentation from ZEFES project, mentioned by Pablo PEREZ-ILLANA in his opening speech. Together with EMPOWER Project EU and ESCALATE - Horizon Europe Project they presented their key results in further development of #BEV and #FCEV trucks, the related infrastructure needs, including for megawatt charging systems, and discussed the project contribution to the AEVETO cluster, in which Clean Hydrogen Partnership projects are also integrated. eBRT2030 project also joined the session, and presented its first results and demonstration activities in Barcelona, Athens and Prague, as well as the international activities carried out, based on outcomes from previously funded projects #ASSURED and #SolutionsPLUS.  A truly energising session to start the day, under the leadership of Eric Cerneaz and Ian Faye, our pillar 1 co-leader!   The second morning session was dedicated to materials for light and safe Green Vehicles, where FLAMINGo Project H2020 and Flexcrash EU Project presented their latest findings. Katerina Deliali, PhD and Thilo Bein, our Vice-chair, moderated a lively discussion in which we discussed further research needs in this key area. #EUTransportResearch #HorizonEU #H2020 #Research #RoadTransport

What a better way to end the day than to discuss circular economy ? That was the topic of discussion of the Plenary session in our #RTR2025 conference. With Simon Edwards, the conference Chair moderating the session, the panellists Aurel Ciobanu-Dordea 🇪🇺-Dordea (EC, DG ENV), Thilo Bein (Fraunhofer LBF), Stefan Christiernin (Volvo Cars), Fabrice Stassin (BEPA) and Wolfgang Nuechter (Robert Bosch) had lively discussions. Among the key topics discussed, we touched upon the existing regulatory landscape,  the need for stable framework conditions, and acting at scale considering the economics. The challenge and opportunities circular economy could bring to the automotive industry, and the role #materials will play in the future, including for EU #strategic #autonomy were also extensively discussed. This is key for electrification of road transport, with materials being used in electric vehicles but also in some other fields such as with semiconductors and electronics. The opportunities are there; we need to make sure that we have the value chains in place, to recover the value along the recycling process, in #Europe for Europeans stakeholders and citizens. This morning, in the #RTR2025 Conference, several #2Zero projects presented their results in the two sessions dedicated to innovative components for more efficient #EVs. Our pillar 1 co-leader, Damian Backes from Institute for Automotive Engineering (ika) co-moderated the sessions with Joao Duarte CARRILHO from CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency. The topic to which #EM_Tech, #MAXIMA, #HEFT, Voltcar Project and CliMAFlux - Horizon Europe Project replied was challenging: improving #efficiency, reducing the use of permanent magnets and critical #raw #materials, and ensuring #recyclability while reducing costs. Individually, these targets might seem (relatively) easy to achieve, but the real challenge is to achieve all of them in a single project; and it looks like our 2Zero projects are on the right tracks! The second session moved on with presentation of projects addressing improvement in power-electronic with the 2Zero project #SCAPE and the only project form the Chips JU presenting in the RTR Conference this year, HiEFFICIENT. HiEfficient developed a 650V system on a #chip half bridge: a first of its kind worldwide 👏 .

Today was a very successful launch of our 8th #RTR2025 Conference. More than 650 participants registered on-site and after speeches from @Rosalinde van der Vlies (DG RTD), Erik von Breska (DG MOVE), Pablo PEREZ-ILLANA (CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency), Christian Merkt (CCAM Association) and Michael Lippert (BEPA - Batteries European Partnership Association) our Chairman Stephan Neugebauer made a very clear call to continue having a strong support to pre-competitive #research and #innovation activities. While results from EU-funded projects cannot always be linked directly to product development, demonstrating impact is key for all of us. Flagship initiatives can play a role by putting research and innovation results, Member States activities and industrial investment together. A good example is the activity put forward to support the emergence reverse factory; curious to hear a little bit more? Tune in for our circularity plenary session tomorrow afternoon ! The first 2Zero session was dedicated to development of advanced solutions for #EV charging to benefit both the users and the grid. eCharge4Drivers, and #EGVI funded project, presented its final results and three #2Zero project (FLOW Project, XL-CONNECT and DriVe2X) also presented their intermediate results. The session led to a very lively discussion, in which, among other topics, the #V2G, impact on battery degradation, cost-benefit for the users, the #DSOs, the #TSOs … were extensively discussed.
