⬅️Yesterday at PIDA Week 2024, AEF hosted the session on "The Missing Connection: Unlocking Sustainable Infrastructure Financing." The session highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination between national governments, including a call for establishing National Coordination Units to help implement multinational projects, better engage with the private sector, and leverage innovative financing modalities, like blended finance and guarantees.
✍🏼Below are a few takeaways that emerged from the session:
🌍Africa and Europe are not only bound by a shared history but also by a collective future, as demonstrated by institutions which foster a sense of community and collaboration between the two continents.
💰Africa's infrastructure financing challenge lies not in a lack of funding but in accessing and leveraging it effectively.
🧱While the AU sets continental priorities, the complexity of regional projects and the challenges of implementation and financing often lead to delayed results.
📈Addressing market fragmentation through initiatives like AfCFTA is key to attracting more private-sector investment in Africa.
