The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is pivotal in ensuring that Senegal’s energy transition is not just about deploying renewable technologies, but about fostering a people-centred sustainable transition that can serve as a model for other African countries. This effort is aligned to our coalition with ReNew2030, aiming to unlock Africa’s renewable energy potential through collaboration, knowledge sharing and inclusive implementation. With that, in February 2025, we reinforced this vision by supporting two key initiatives: accelerating the adoption of renewable energy and promoting sustainable industrial practices. We are proud to have participated in the launch of the South African Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change. Supported by The African Climate Foundation, this initiative, led by the Independent Philanthropy Association of South Africa, aims to mobilise funders across South Africa to integrate climate considerations into their strategies. "We firmly support the pledge as it aligns with our vision for a just and equitable transition in South Africa. For the country to realise its full potential in fostering socio-economic development, it is essential to centre policies on social, environmental, and economic justice, ensuring that they address deep-rooted inequality and unlock long-term benefits for all." - Saliem Fakir Join the movement and learn more: https://lnkd.in/gzDnv9J3 This landmark pledge is Africa’s inaugural step into the global Philanthropy For Climate movement, becoming the first in Africa and the tenth globally. The African Climate Foundation is one of the first 10 signatories to the pledge and we invite all funders to sign the Commitment and be part of a growing network dedicated to integrating climate action into philanthropy.

We were pleased to host the African Food Systems Transformation Collective's (AFSTC) first in-person convening, alongside DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security (CoE-FS), Rwanda Organic Agriculture Movement and UNESCO Rwanda National Commission (CNRU) in November 2024. We brought together colleagues from across the continent to exchange ideas, foster collaboration, and co-create solutions for a more sustainable and resilient food future. As Florian Kroll highlights, these spaces are critical—not just for mobilising knowledge, but for forging the connections that turn ideas into action. The Collective, an initiative of The African Climate Foundation, aims to cultivate a pan-African knowledge network, that informs philanthropies and other stakeholders, with evidence-based analysis and practical recommendations for strategies and partnership opportunities to promote agroecological food systems transitions.

Shaping the future of sustainable industrialisation: Launch of African-led Green Industrial Development Expert Panel. The African Climate Foundation (ACF) and The Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance, University of Cape Town, are excited to announce the establishment of the Green Industrial Development Expert Panel (GIDEP). The GIDEP will convene leading strategic African thinkers on greening industrialisation and will also draw more broadly on experts on greening industrialisation in the Global South. The GIDEP will support the formulation of African-led policy positions to ensure the continent’s interests are effectively represented in key international fora and negotiation processes, such as the Africa-hosted G20 and COP30 in Brazil. Saliem Fakir explains that at this critical juncture “the GIDEP offers a unique opportunity for African nations to lead in shaping the future of sustainable industrialisation. It is essential that we centre our approach on social, environmental, and economic justice to unlock the full potential of Africa’s green industrialisation, ensuring equitable development and addressing profound inequalities faced by many communities across the continent.” Read the full statement below. "2024 was a momentous year for The African Climate Foundation. We’ve grown significantly, but it’s not just about size – it’s about the impact we’re driving. Our focus remains on achieving tangible outcomes in the real economy while aligning advocacy, policy and movement-building to scale the solutions Africa needs. Looking ahead, measuring and scaling our impact will be core priorities for 2025 and beyond. To strengthen our investment platform strategies; we will launch new sustainable finance programmes and international investment initiatives to ensure African trade partners play a predominant role in African-led processes. We will also expand our work in agriculture, critical minerals, e-mobility, and green industrial development. We look forward to the growth of the Africa Energy Futures Initiative, which was announced at COP29 Azerbaijan. We are also undertaking a strategy refresh to chart our path from 2025 to 2030." - Saliem Fakir. Read more on this here: https://lnkd.in/gNrivY-6
