  • 📣 Exploring sustainable 𝗲-𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲 & 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 at the ALICE Logistics Innovation Summit.   As e-commerce changes urban logistics, sustainable practices and circular economy principles are essential to mitigate environmental impacts. This session moderated by Hans Schurmans (PROXIMUS & ALICE) brought together Josephine Darlington (ASTER), Joy Pasquet (Amazon Logistics), Martina Elfgren (Swedish Commerce) and Bartosz Kożuch (Research Group of Logistics) to discuss strategies for greener, more efficient urban logistics in the face of growing demand for fast, reliable delivery.   🚲 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁-𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆: dynamic sharing of assets, whether it is infrastructures or vehicles is the way to go: bus depots turned into micro-hubs at day time, use of urban rail and cargo bikes to deliver in city centres, night-time deliveries, etc.    ♻️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Sustainable e-commerce isn't just about deliveries. Circular initiatives such as local maintenance networks and efficient returns management (e.g. through digitalised return processes) have great potential to reduce costs and CO2-impact of e-commerce.   🌐 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲-𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲 means empowering customers to make informed choices. Projects like GreenTurn Project provide transparency on delivery options, enabling greener choices and introducing behavioural incentives in pilot sites across the EU. This approach leads the way to a greener e-commerce landscape.   ⚙️ 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 & 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀. The need for faster regulatory alignment and digital standardisation was highlighted, particularly in the area of urban access regulation and LEZ rules, which vary widely between regions. Harmonised policies and accessible digital data will be key to scalable, sustainable logistics.   With growing consumer awareness and collaborative efforts, e-commerce logistics is evolving to support both the economy and the environment. #SustainableECommerce #UrbanLogistics #CircularEconomy #ALICESummit #GreenLogistics #LogisticsInnovation

This session focused on the vital role of innovation in urban logistics for the implementation of the 𝗘𝗨'𝘀 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸. The panellists including 𝗧𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗞𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗸𝗲 (the European Commission, DG MOVE), Ivo Cré (POLIS), Elisabeth Hörnfeldt (SCANIA) and Johan Leveque (La Poste Group) together with Dr. Yanying Li Li (ALICE) moderating the discussion, shared insights on the strategies needed to make city logistics both sustainable and efficient.   𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱:   📝 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Effective urban logistics requires close collaboration between public authorities, private providers and technology innovators. Speakers highlighted the importance of enabling policy frameworks, spaces for urban freight, and common standards, such as uniform data formats, to optimise usage of vehicles, spaces and assets.   📝 𝗨𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁: Local authorities have a powerful role to play in supporting innovative solutions and promoting sustainable logistics, setting frameworks such as policy-sandbox for innovative solutions, and supporting off-peak deliveries of zero emission vehicles. However, to enable scale-up of innovative solutions, a unified approach of low emission zones and digitalisation of urban vehicle access regulations (UVAR) are essential.   📝 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆: With high demand and limited space, innovative solutions such as micro-hubs and cargo bikes can help cities reduce congestion and emissions. Shared facilities and electrified vehicles are paving the way for smoother, greener last-mile deliveries.   📝 𝗟𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀: Urban logistics is not only about transport parcels of e-commerce. Logistics for construction sites needs more attentions – R&I projects, knowledge sharing and policies.   By combining policy, collaboration, and innovative solutions, urban logistics can become more efficient, connected, and environmentally sustainable.
