🌟 What an incredible event hosted last week by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) on #food and #enzymes!   AMFEP was privileged to be part of the conversation, with our Secretary General, Céline Benini (PhD) Benini, invited to represent us in this critical discussion. Special thanks to Yi Liu, her team, and all EFSA colleagues who organized such a successful event, as well as to Dr. Valeriu Curtui for supporting this collaboration. 🔬 Shaping the Future of Biotechnology Last week, EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries and a coalition of 18 industry stakeholders including AMFEP reached out to the EU Commission Secretary General, highlighting our support for the #BiotechAct, set to launch in 2025. Our message is clear: we want to enphasise the importance of ensuring the act takes a truly cross-sectoral approach. At AMFEP, we believe biotechnology holds great potential to drive innovation and sustainability, particularly in enzyme production and its applications. A broad, inclusive framework will be key to unlocking benefits that resonate across industries. We look forward to contributing to this important conversation and seeing biotechnology take the stage in Europe’s future. 🌍

It’s an opportunity to reflect on what’s working, identify areas for improvement, and discuss the road ahead to ensure the safety of EU market products while maintaining the EU's #competitiveness on a global scale. We all agree on something, safety is definitey non-negotiable! ✅ At AMFEP, we believe that open dialogue is key to successful collaboration with EFSA. Our "recipe" for effective cooperation includes: - Mutual trust built on years of science-based engagement - Strong alignment and preparation within AMFEP and with other stakeholders - Transparent communication and a willingness to address challenges openly -Consistent efforts to engage EFSA and the European Commission cohesively During Workshop 2 on innovation in food risk assessment methodology, Céline Benini (PhD) Benini, AMFEP Secretary General, highlighted our collaborative journey with EFSA on the Food Enzymes Intake Models (FEIM). From its very beginning in 2017 to the release of the FEIM webtool in 2024, this project is one of the most rewarding partnership with EFSA to date. Recently, we asked our community in which industry—like food, detergents, pharma, and textiles—enzyme producers sell more. Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts! 🙌 And the correct answer was... Food & Beverages 🍽️ According to our 2020 socio-economic analysis, enzyme products for the food & beverage sector accounted for the biggest share (35%) of the total market value, followed by enzyme products for cleaning agents 🧼 and the animal feed sector 🐄, accounting for 25% and 20%, respectively. Biofuels 🌱 make up 10%, while textile, paper, and pharma 🧬 sectors also account for 10% of the market share. This confirms the broad impact of enzymes across different sectors.
