Dear members, partners, colleagues, leaders, and supporters, On behalf of my team and myself, I would like to wish Happy and Prosperous New Year 2024! As we slowly return to business, I would like to thank you all for your support, your contributions through the past year, and your commitment to the fulfillment of Agenda 2063. 2023 was an important year as we joined the African Union Mission to the European Union and the OACPS, the diaspora and our fellow Africans, in celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Organisation of the African Union. The year was also marked by our collaboration with the Mission in organising a consultation with diaspora youth organisations and experts on the successes and priorities for diaspora contribution in Africa. In line with our Roadmap and the AU theme of the year, we engaged young experts in the diaspora and on the African continent in exchanges around the contribution of the diaspora youth to the African Free Trade Agreement (AfCTA). This was also the opportunity to reinforce our relationships with key partners in Africa as we continue to center partnership with the six AU regions in our work. In our effort to strengthen these partnerships and to further youth and diaspora engagement, we also contributed to diaspora youth voices to key dialogues, including the Policy Forum on Development organised by the EU Commission in September 2023; the third Diaspora Future Forum held in October 2023; the Regional Diaspora Forum organised by AU-CIDO held in December 2023, etc. I further represented the priorities of the diaspora youth at key platforms, such as the Diaspora Engagement Forum 2023 on Leveraging Remittances for small-scale Investments in Food Security and Renewable Energy in Africa held by the African Institute for Remittances; the Global Gateway, a worldwide initiative by the European Commission to invest in infrastructure projects and establish economic partnerships, etc. We also continue to contribute in the Youth Dialogue Platform designed with the EU Commission and young people and organisations from partner regions. We are conscient that part of work is not always visible, and hence commit to communicate better our progress and arising opportunities. I trust in the commitment and hard work of my team to achieve these objectives, with YOUR support, members, partners and supporters. I thank the partners and leaders who have committed to mainstream youth the diaspora in their work, including institutions, Heads of States, the AU Mission to the EU, the AU Commission, AU-CIDO and the EU Commission for International Partnership (INTPA). I take this opportunity to advocate for further diaspora engagement with reinforced national strategies and to reiterate our support in these processes. Let’s keep this spirit in 2024, and beyond. I wish you and your loved ones a Successful, Peaceful and Happy New Year. Ms, Adelaide Hirwe Secretary General, African Union Diaspora Youth Initiative
