At Malaika, we’re transforming an entire community in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
At the heart of our community-driven ecosystem lies the Malaika School. Opening its doors to 430 girls each day, our School provides a free, accredited primary and secondary education, with subjects ranging from STEM and coding to art, music, theater, and sport. In Summer 2023 we celebrated the graduation of the very first cohort of Malaika students.
Outside of our school gates, we’re ensuring the entire community thrives. Our Community Center provides a hub of learning for over 6,000 youth and adults each year, from free literacy and vocational education to sports programs and access to the internet. Our Vocational Training Center, in partnership with the Caterpillar Foundation, provides out-of-school youth and adults with high-quality vocational training, preparing them to secure a sustainable income.
What’s more, our 30 wells supply fresh, clean water to more than 36,000 people each year, reducing disease and illness. And, in addition to providing daily nutritious meals for our students and staff, our community farm teaches vital learnings about sustainable agriculture.
Founded in 2007, Malaika is equipping girls and their families with the skills, resources, and support to shape their own future, and we’re proud to provide all of these programs at no cost. We’re also directly impacting six of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the DRC, as demonstrated by our 2023 SDG Impact Report: ‘Tomorrow Within Reach: Leveraging the SDGs to Transform Today’.
