If we look at the current state of the world, we might have the false assumption that people who bully, self-promote and cheat are the only ones to achieve success fast and easy. Many are so conditioned by the 'success' paradigm. An outdated paradigm which states that success will give us worthiness and is to be found in titles, degrees, fame, material possessions. And the sooner we can tick off these bullet points: the degree, the title, the house, the car, the more successful we are perceived to be. Some are so blinded or even desperate to find worthiness, happiness, fulfillment in those things that they are ready to betray themselves and choose a Machiavellian way to climb the so-called ladder of success.
