Substituting mineral fertilisers with bio-based #fertilisers from #waste and side streams is increasingly recognised as an effective strategy to reduce the #environmental impact associated to fertilisers #production and #use. However, for such a substitution to be beneficial and effective for #farmers, 👨🌾 bio-based fertilisers need to be reliable and safe. 🌱 On 19/11, the ESNI Working Group on 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, led by Kari Ylivainio from Natural Resources Institute Finland / Luonnonvarakeskus held its planning meeting to identify, together with 6 BCE members, key points to structure a common action 🚀 for a better assessment of the #agronomic #efficiency of bio-based fertilisers. Over the past month, #WalNUT_eu partners visited two pilot plants in Spain, making strides in #BioBasedFertilizers (BBFs) production 📍 9 Oct: At Ourense (Galicia), hosted by Cetaqua - Water Technology Centre and managed by Viaqua, we explored innovative tech to recover nitrogen from #wastewater and create fertilisers enriched with PGPB. 📍 7 Nov: In Zamora (Castilla y León), Veolia and CARTIF showcased a microalgae-based process transforming industrial wastewater into nutrient-rich biomass for BBFs. Innovative #technologies for #nutrient #recycling play a crucial role in our pathway to a more #sustainable and #greener economy.
