🌿 Architects and contractors are embracing earth blocks! 🌿 In our Living Lab, we see how earth blocks are making their way into mainstream construction through the efforts of architects and contractors. Our partner Democo, a renowned contractor, is already applying earth blocks in several large-scale projects. They shared their experience: "Our own bricklayers really enjoyed working with these earth blocks, especially in cases where they were bonded with the Léém adhesive mortar. The softness of the material (compared to cement) was a real plus." 🌍 Earth blocks are versatile building materials that can be applied across a range of construction scenarios, both for load-bearing and non-load-bearing purposes. They can be used for infill masonry, partition walls, or cladding and finishing. 🔍Our research explores the potential applications of earth blocks within various construction systems, including both new construction projects and renovations. A particular emphasis is placed on ensuring strong, compatible connections with other materials and the seamless integration in diverse building contexts. 📸 Pictured: Two inspiring projects we're following with the Living Lab: Project TANNAT in Molenbeek: highlights the use of the stabilised earth blocks as infill masonry in a four-bedroom appartement. 📣 Action speaks louder than words… Fier dat ik een heuse werksessie met 35 stakeholders mocht faciliteren vanuit werkagenda Bio-economie van Vlaanderen Circulair, Departement Economie, Wetenschap en Innovatie (EWI) & Made Design & Innovation. 🏋♂️ Samen met trekkers van het eerste uur Embuild Vlaanderen, Earth Plant & Fiber, Kamp C, POM Limburg (Provinciale Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij Limburg), Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen en RURANT tekenden we een actie-plan Bio-gebaseerd bouwen uit waarbij we in 3 teams acties opzetten rond beleidsadvies, ketenvorming en kwaliteit & waarde. 🐥 Het enthousiasme om met bestaande initiatieven en samen een grotere slagkracht en stem te hebben was voelbaar in de 'uit zijn voegen barstende' vergaderruimte. #Baksteen is springlevend! Architectuurcriticus Harm Tilman deelt zijn inzichten van #BondingBrick/ #MasterClassBaksteen.
