  • During yesterday's intervision session with some of our certified coaches we discussed how coaching can initially have an unsettling effect. As it debunks superficial certainties and drives deeper reflection,we often see that impactful coaching can temprarily reduce a coachee's #protean attitudes of self-directedness and values-driven action. As a coach it's on you to explain this and set expectations. It's as if Adam Grant listened in as his illustration on this variation of the Dunning-Kruger effect is of great value to do just that: set expectations. If you want coaching to effectuate a step change, then be prepared to lose your footing first!   • Laat je bedrijf eens pitchen door hogeschoolstudenten. Misschien een gek idee op het eerste zicht, maar een echte aanrader! Samen met Aïcha Berouijil, Laila Chiguer en Zita Verhoeven hebben we de afgelopen 2 maanden een traject doorlopen om onze toch wel complexe en egespecialiseerde value propostition te strippen van het HR jargon en te brengen op een manier zodat ze ook voor buitenstaanders duidelijk is. Een ervaring die even leerrijk was voor ons als voor de studenten zelf. Als klap op de vuurpijl hadden Thomas More-hogeschool en AFAS Software België ook nog een event georganiseerd voor zo'n 100-tal gasten. Echt een top i itiatief met dank aan Carolien Hendrickx en een aanrader voor elke #hrtech ondernemer!

    "What if my N+1 doesn't want to let me go?" This question often arises in workshops on career management. Several factors, such as a resource gap, fear of low team morale, or inadequate knowledge transfer, can contribute to line managers hesitating to facilitate the development or movement of their direct reports to another team or business unit—either consciously or unconsciously. 🤔However, what happens when an individual harbours aspirations beyond their current role? Anticipation is crucial here to prevent being caught off guard. Therefore, collaborating with HR on succession plans, preventing knowledge monopolies, fostering continuous knowledge transfer, and integrating discussions on career aspirations into regular one-on-one meetings can facilitate the smooth transition of a skilled employee to another department. Successfully managing career aspirations requires 3 key elements according to me: 1. A company culture that openly shares and encourages career aspirations. 2. Employees who have and actively pursue their career plans. 3. Line managers who support their team members' career aspirations, even if it means they move on to serve the company's objectives outside their immediate team.     🎓 Levenslang leren? Daar zijn we nog niet vrees ik 🎓 Lees ik dit goed? Meer dan 40% heeft vorig jaar geen opleiding gevolgd! Bedroevend. Willen ze niet of mogen ze niet? Het verbaast me dan ook weer niet als ik soms de excuses en redenen hoor in gesprekken met bedrijfsleiders en HR managers: 💬 "Daar hebben wij geen tijd voor"  💬 "Wij leren hier on the job, dat is veel effectiever"  💬 "Gij weet niet wat dat kost zeker?" 💬 "Ik zou niet weten wat ik nog moet leren"  💬 "Dit jaar hebben we andere prioriteiten" Dit staat in schril contrast met  🎯 Technologische vooruitgang die grote noden aan her- en bijscholing creëert  🎯 Dalend engagement van werknemers (quit quitters) 🎯 Nijpende tekorten op de arbeidsmarkt (opleiden is het nieuwe recruteren)  🎯 Competitieve nadelen op de internationale arbeidsmarkt (hoge loonkost) We blijven in België vrij conservatief als het op leren en ontwikkelen aankomt. Investeren in ons menselijk kapitaal wordt nog teveel als een kost gezien. We laten ons nog teveel leiden door de korte termijn urgenties en brandjes die ons vaak weg houden van wat echt een verschil kan maken. Het zit diep ❓ Wordt leren en bijleren nog teveel gezien als een teken van zwakte?  ❓ Leren en bijleren vraagt een zekere kwetsbaarheid wat voor velen niet evident is.  ❓ Zit er een vorm van luiheid in ons waardoor we liever in onze comfortzone blijven hangen?  ❓ Of zijn we gewoon teveel gefocust op de (ultra) korte termijn? Of zijn er andere verklaringen? #businessmentoring #levenslangleren #opleiding
