🎂 This week, CBE JU marks its third anniversary! Since its launch in 2021, CBE JU has been at the forefront of a competitive, circular, and collaborative #bioeconomy in Europe, contributing to making it. The CBE JU-funded SUSTAINEXT project and CIRCULAR BIOCARBON projects were recently highlighted in a story from the Spanish newspaper Diario EL PAÍS. Coordinated by José María Pinilla, SUSTAINEXT: 🌱 is transforming the plant in #Hervás, #Extremadura, into a next-generation, emissions-neutral biofactory. As reported in the article, the initiative not only integrates renewable energy but also designs innovative management for botanical residues. Led by Eduardo Fernandez Gimenez, CIRCULAR BIOCARBON: 🚮 pioneers a #biorefinery that processes urban organic #waste and sewage sludge, aiming to produce high-purity intermediate products with fossil-equivalent quality. The CBE JU-funded Bio-LUSH project is paving the way for #sustainable textiles with #biobased fibres. How? ⚠️ Fibre demand surged to 124 million tons in 2023, creating problems with #microplastic pollution and excessive water consumption. 🌱 The project's innovative approach uses bio-based fibres extracted from underused feedstock employing #ecofriendly processes. Discover how the CBE JU-funded LIGNICOAT BBI Project transforms waste into high-performance coatings. The project developed a #sustainable method to convert kraft lignin, a #byproduct of pulping, into eco-friendly, durable coatings for metals by: 🌱 extracting #biobased lignin resins that meet industry standards for corrosion resistance and adhesion; ♻️ repurposing leftover lignin into special pigment dispersants, showcasing a cost-effective, zero-waste process.
