About us

Cinéart is a leading Benelux film distribution company. Our mission is to bring great stories to our audiences. Stories that touch, unite, and give meaning. We pride ourselves on supporting quality cinema – small, medium, large. Over the years, we have selected and released countless Oscar & Golden Palm award-winning films. Our library spans from titles such as Slumdog Millionaire, Drive, Dolor & Gloria, Portrait of a lady on fire, The Artist and The Specials, created by esteemed directors such as the Dardenne brothers, Ken Loach, Michael Haneke, Alex van Warmedam, Agnès Varda, Pedro Almodóvar, Céline Sciamma and many more. See our line-up on www.cineart.be or www.cineart.nl We have offices in Brussels and Amsterdam with local teams in each country. We are one of the few independent distributors being fully integrated across all our geographies and windows. The company was founded by Eliane Dubois in 1975. Over the years, she established an institution. Since her passing in 2013, her spirit lives on within a team adamant to perpetuate the passion for outstanding film with Marc Smit and Stephan DePotter (co-owners - respectively in Amsterdam and in Brussels). Cinéart Benelux has just about 25 employees across all windows. We are committed to building our online audience (100k friends and growing daily), and have the ambition to cultivate the most loyal quality cinema audience in Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2020, with Curzon (UK) and Madman Entertainment (AUS), Cinéart launched the development fund 'Curzon CM'. This fund was created to offer talented filmmakers the opportunity to develop projects, finance and release them. Cinéart - Eyes wide open - since 1975

  • The word is out: Carice van Houten is starring in Mees Peijnenburg’s new feature film A FAMILY 👨👩👧👦. The shooting of the film is in full swing.   Mees Peijnenburg: “This project, A FAMILY, is very personal and important to me. For a very long time, I’ve wanted to make a film about a family going through divorce. I waited years for the right moment, and now, that moment has come. A FAMILY is a film about resilience, heartache, loneliness, unconditional love, and, above all, emotional safety. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to create A FAMILY with such a formidable cast and crew.”   It will be Carice van Houten’s first appearance in a Dutch feature film since Halina Reijn’s INSTINCT: “The themes of A FAMILY and the emotional complexities of the children’s characters resonated deeply with me, so when Mees showed me his vision of what he wanted this film to be it was an easy yes.”   👉 Teenagers Eli and Nina are trying, each in their own way, to keep their heads above water while the marriage of their parents — played by Carice van Houten and Pieter Embrechts — dissolves into a messy divorce. A FAMILY is narrated from the children's perspective, making it a unique family drama. The cast consists of #CaricevanHouten, #PieterEmbrechts, #FinnVogels and #CelesteHolsheimer.   👉 Cinéart is the Benelux distributor of the film. A FAMILY is set to hit cinemas next year. 📷Kris Dewitte / Juliet at Pupkin -- Iris Otten 🌳 Nathalie van der Burg #TheReunion VPRO Nederlands Filmfonds, Cobo, Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds (VAF), Eurimages - Council of Europe, Flanders Tax Shelter
