📢 Today, the third Parliamentarian Breakfast from the Deutscher Bundestag on #AirborneWindEnergy was held at the German Reichstag Building! 🙏 A huge thank you to Mark Helfrich from CDU Deutschlands for hosting this important event and for dedicating his time to support our sector. ✏️ The breakfast focused on a crucial topic: airspace integration and the related permitting processes currently limiting #AWE development in Germany. 🤝 #AWE industry leaders, including Stephen Wrage and Mark Hoppe from SkySails Group; Florian Breipohl and Nicole Allgaier from EnerKite GmbH; Florian Bauer, Ph.D. from Kitekraft; and Kristian Petrick from Airborne Wind Europe shared insights into the current challenges facing #AWE in Germany. One of the most urgent subjects discussed was the lack of clarity in permitting procedures, which is not only delaying projects but has even led to the suspension of crucial test activities. This regulatory uncertainty poses a significant obstacle to progress. ♻️ Together, we explored potential solutions and paths forward to address these challenges and unlock the full potential of #AWE. We also distributed the updated position paper outlining our current priorities and recommendations. 👉 #AWE position paper in 🇩🇪: https://lnkd.in/dpEQW2EZ 🌍💨 Thank you to everyone involved in this vital dialogue as we work towards a future where #AWE can contribute fully to the energy transition. 👉 Find out more about the event on our website: https://lnkd.in/d-EFA_6N #AWE #WindEnergy #AirborneWindEnergy #CleanEnergy #Innovation #Sustainability #NetZero #GreenTech #CleanTech #CleanIndustrialDeal #NZIA

Last week, I had the privilege of speaking at the Energy Transition Summit, where I shared some updates on airborne wind energy development in Ireland on behalf of BlueWise Marine and DEM-AWE project, alongside talks about other exciting renewable energy solutions like hydrogen and biochar. It was inspiring to hear from a diverse range of stakeholders and gain a bird's-eye view of Ireland's energy transition landscape. One thing I love about Ireland is how tradition and innovation live together here, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in tension, which becomes more apparent as the country is moving ahead on its #EnergyTransition journey. This is exactly what policy experts mean when they talk about the need for a "whole of society transformation"—it's a deep cultural shift. I couldn’t agree more with Paul McCormack from HydrogenIreland, who pointed out that many countries are watching Ireland to see if we can get our model right. So, what can other countries learn from Ireland’s experience? Here are a few key insights I took from the event: 🔌 Prioritise Grid Upgrades The development of renewable energy technologies is progressing rapidly. There’s interest, investment, and momentum to build new infrastructure, but our transmission networks must be prepared to handle it. 🔢 Optimise Energy Systems Collecting and leveraging data on energy supply, demand, and use is critical. Optimising energy systems can save resources and propel us forward. AI can help with managing the complexity. 👨👩👧👦 Balance Speed with Inclusivity We’re moving as fast as we can ( although still not enough, I know! 😁 ), but we must accept that progress will be slow at times—and that’s okay. Ireland, like many nations, has embarked on the energy transition late. Building new energy infrastructure and overhauling existing systems involves tough conversations, and in a democracy, that means navigating conflict and managing diverse perspectives. At the same time, in just three years, #Ireland has designed policies to support renewable offshore wind development, drafted the first marine area plan, and held its first offshore wind auction—an impressive feat, even if there's more work ahead. And I think that this is perhaps the essence of climate action at scale: push hard, celebrate incremental wins, get comfortable with tension, and keep going. This list is not exhaustive—I'd love to hear your thoughts! Feel free to share your key points in the comments.
