Dredging in the first expansion phase of the Kiel Canal in Germany is nearing completion. The eastern section of the canal is progressing significantly, with the first phase of dredging almost finished. Our backhoe dredger ‘Peter the Great’ has removed nearly 1.1 million cubic metres of soil, pictured here as Maersk’s green methanol vessel ‘Laura Maersk’ passes by. The current focus is on refining the underwater slopes and removing unevenness on the canal bed, with the works set to finish by mid-2025. This project is part of a larger effort to widen the canal for more reliable shipping traffic and to prepare it for future shipping needs. The Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration is working on the eastern section between Großkönigsförde and Holtenau, with plans to widen the canal to a minimum bed width of 70 metres. Additionally, the curves are being softened to allow ships to pass more easily. #kielcanal #dredging #shipping #germany WSV - Wasserstraßen- und Schifffahrtsverwaltung des Bundes A.P. • 🚧🎉 The Blankenburgverbinding in the Netherlands is officially open! The Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Barry Madlener, marked the opening of this new road infrastructure, immediately followed by the first cars driving through the Maasdeltatunnel. As part of the BAAK Blankenburgverbinding consortium, DEME is proud to have played a key role in this large-scale infrastructure project, which improves accessibility to the Rotterdam region. The scope included the design, construction, and 20 years of maintenance of the road infrastructure. Highlighting the benefits of the synergies within DEME, we brought many aspects of our infrastructure, dredging and offshore expertise together for this complex project, including constructing immersed tunnels. Indeed, one of the biggest challenges was the immersion of the tunnel elements of the 945-metre long Maasdeltatunnel, located in one of the world’s busiest shipping routes in the port of Rotterdam. We would like to thank our consortium partners, our client Rijkswaterstaat, and especially the incredible teams who worked on this project for six years! #blankenburgverbinding #immersedtunnel Ballast Nedam HICL Infrastructure PLC

  • December 6 is a special day for many children, as Sinterklaas brings joy and gifts wherever he goes. In keeping with tradition, we celebrated our annual Sinterklaas gathering with DEME families last weekend. Sinterklaas arrived safely by boat and made a grand entrance at an indoor playground, carrying a boatload of gifts and sweets for the children. We’d like to think our maintenance dredging works played a part in his smooth journey, ensuring the waterways were at just the right depth for his special cargo to reach us! 🎁 😉 It was a magical day filled with laughter, treats, and unforgettable moments for our DEME families. #sinterklaas #OneDEMEOneTeam

  • 🚧Progress on the Scheldt Tunnel in Antwerp. On the Left Bank construction site, the first section of the tunnel is being submerged - a major milestone in constructing the immersed tunnel, part of the Oosterweel road infrastructure project. 150,000 m³ of water is pumped from the Scheldt onto the site, allowing the tunnel and the river to meet for the first time!   🏗️The next step? Breaking through the old Scheldt dyke. To avoid potential damage from the Scheldt’s strong currents, the tunnel section is being put under water before removing the old dyke. By early 2025, the dyke will be dismantled, giving more space to the river. By giving the Scheldt more room, a natural floodplain with 24 hectares of new nature is being created close to the city. Further inland, we’re building a new, higher Scheldt dyke to ensure stronger flood defenses.   👷♀️In 2025, eight tunnel sections will be transported from the construction site in Zeebrugge to Antwerp, where they will be immersed. Oosterweel is a large-scale infrastructure project in Antwerp aimed at completing the city’s ring road, reducing congestion, and improving connectivity.   Client: Lantis DEME's partners in the TM COTU joint venture: BESIXJan De Nul GroupSTADSBADER CONTRACTORS NV #oosterweel #ditisoosterweel #antwerp #tunnel #immersedtunnel

As we count down to the official opening of the Blankenburgverbinding in the Netherlands on 7 December, two events took place last weekend to explore the brand-new road and tunnel infrastructure. On Saturday, visitors had the unique opportunity to get a preview of the new road infrastructure during an open day. A walk through the Maasdeltatunnel provided a behind-the-scenes look at the construction, showcasing a project that DEME is proud to be part of. On Sunday, the Tunnel Run challenged runners with a 10-kilometre race featuring steep gradients and long descents in the Maasdeltatunnel and Hollandtunnel. For our DEME team, many of whom contributed to the construction of the Blankenburgverbinding, running through the infrastructure they helped build was an unforgettable experience! 🎥 After movie open day: https://lnkd.in/eh38-mAX 🏃 After movie Tunnel Run: https://lnkd.in/eWYYD3dJ #Blankenburgverbinding BAAK Blankenburgverbinding Ballast Nedam

  • Returning to Cuxhaven in Germany! DEME has been awarded a contract for the construction of a new offshore wind terminal at the Port of Cuxhaven, further strengthening the port's position as an offshore industrial hub supporting the handling of heavy-duty loads, including components for offshore wind farms. As part of a consortium, including Depenbrock Bau GmbH & Co. KG and TAGU, DEME will carry out the dredging and land reclamation works for this new terminal, operated by Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG. Having previously contributed to the construction of neighbouring berths 4 and 8, we are excited to return to Cuxhaven. With extensive experience in Germany, including projects like the deepening of the Elbe River and the widening of the Kiel Canal, we look forward to starting this new port expansion project! 📰 Read more in the press release: https://lnkd.in/eNNg_pHD #portexpansion #dredging #landreclamation #energytransition #germany #cuxhaven Unternehmensgruppe LUDWIG FREYTAG
