The 2024 technology reports of the Clean Energy Technology Observatory of the European Commission, EU Science, Research and Innovation, are now available, including the latest on #hydropower and #pumpedstorage! 🌊 Some key insights that Emanuele Quaranta will present in the webinar 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫: 𝐁𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐈𝐈𝐈 on December 6: ✅ Hydropower is the largest low-carbon and renewable electricity technology globally. ✅ Pumped-storage hydropower (PSH) constitutes 96% of utility-scale energy storage worldwide. ✅ The EU hosts a quarter of global PSH capacity. ✅ Hydropower supports regional development through local tax contributions and employment. ✅ It ensures grid stability, prevents blackouts, and supports volatile renewables like wind and solar. ✅ Large hydropower reservoirs, if designed as multi-purpose schemes, can also support other uses, such as irrigation, drinking water, flood control, drought management, navigation and recreation. ✅ New large dams can also have an impact on the environment, so sustainability must always be considered at the planning stage, and this must done for any power plant and energy technology. ✅ Emerging technologies include variable speed turbines, digital twins, mitigation strategies for fish migration, and hybrid systems. 📝 Register for the webinar here: https://lnkd.in/dwyRDMhW ➡️ You can find the rest of the reports here: https://lnkd.in/d3cVt6a3 Let’s keep the energy conversation flowing! ⚡ Emanuele Quaranta, Aliki Georgakaki, Simon LETOUT, Aikaterini Mountraki, Ela Ince, Juan Gea Bermúdez #Hydropower #PumpedStorage #EnergyInnovation #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy
