A tough nut to crack: how big is the Chinese market for plant-based food? Traditional vegetarian restaurants can be found in the vicinity of many temples in #China, and eating habits shaped by a strong focus on health encourage many to seek out plant-based options. That said, #meatconsumption in the country has jumped five-fold over the past three decades, with a heavy impact on carbon footprint and public health concerns. Led predominantly by health-conscious urban Millennials and Gen-Z consumers, the market for plant-based foods has seen over the past 15 years a surge in the number of domestic and international brand offerings. In this video, several #plantbased European brands share their experience of navigating the Chinese market, adapting to its evolving trends, and creating brand recognition for their products. https://lnkd.in/eSrYiAap

Happy New Year of the Snake! This year, the number of public holiday days in China increases, going from 11 days to 13 days. Employees will gain an extra day for Spring Festival and another for the May Golden Week. As the annual #Chunyun period of peak travel rush is underway, the tourism industry hopes to benefit from more leisure trips. Will the two extra days prompt higher travel consumption? We are pleased to invite stakeholders to join our next Policy Meeting in Beijing, where Ms Elitza Mileva, Lead Economist at the World Bank, will give an overview of the Bank’s latest China Economic Update. While in the first three quarters of 2024, #China’s growth remained robust at 4.8 per cent, there has been a moderation since Q2 of 2024 due to a variety of factors, among which subdued demand and ongoing issues with the property sector. The various policy measures rolled out in the second half of the year do go some way to address the current issues in the short term. However, more structural reforms will be required in order to effectively address these challenges to China’s economic growth. Please note that this meeting organised by the EU SME Centre and European Union Chamber of Commerce in China is open only to consortium partners’ management and relevant stakeholders of EU SME Centre Phase IV, including European embassies, consulates, EU-funded projects and secretariat/board members from European chambers or business associations. 🗓️ 7 February 2025 🕥 From 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM CST 📍 Beijing #WorldBank #ChinaEconomicUpdate #ChinaEconomy https://lnkd.in/eRjhM66E
