📢 EURATEX Joins the Ecodesign Forum EURATEX has been selected as a member of the Ecodesign Forum, the key platform established under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). This forum brings together the European Commission, Member States, and stakeholders to discuss critical aspects of the new regulation, including the Delegated Act on textile products, the regulatory work programme, and measures on unsold goods. Our participation will ensure that the voice of the European textile and clothing industry is heard. EURATEX will advocate for practical and realistic ecodesign requirements that align with business realities. During the Masterclass on Sustainable Chemistry at #RegioGreenTex partner Centexbel this week, Philippe Colignon presented RegioGreenTex together with Myriam Vanneste going deeper into the reuse, repair and refurbishment of discarded carpet. After a short introduction about the REACH regulation, the masterclass discussed current topics that impact the textile industry industry, as well as ongoing restriction proposals, such as UPFAS and skin sensitizers, paying particular attention to ECHA's strategy for flame retardants. ♻️ Building a Circular Economy for Textiles On 14 January, Ekaterina Stoyanova, EURATEX Policy Officer, joined Heimtextil to discuss developments in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Why is EPR important? 👉 It supports EU Member States’ obligation to separately collect textile waste as of 1 January. 👉 It enables the creation of a European recycling value chain, capable of recycling 2.2 million tons by 2030. The EU is revising its Waste Framework Directive to make EPR mandatory for textiles. EURATEX is advocating for: ✅ A harmonized EPR framework. ✅ SME support in the circular transition. ✅ Effective enforcement and a level playing field. ✅ Alignment with eco-design legislation. ✅ Simplified data management. On the 1st of January 2025, the revised Paneuromed Convention entered into force, adding an essential piece to the European textile and clothing sector's competitiveness and deepening the already strong trade links with the Mediterranean area. The revised Paneuromed rules will apply alongside the old rules until the end of 2025.
