Most of the materials used by the fashion, textile, and apparel industry come from farms, forests, or fossil fuels – all of which have a range of environmental and social implications. Launched at the Textile Exchange Conference in October, the Materials Impact Explorer (MIE) is a free, open-source tool designed to help brands understand the location-specific risks linked to their raw material sourcing decisions. The tool provides tailored recommendations on: 🌱 Assess risks 🌱 Understand opportunities for impact reduction 🌱 Supporting local and global sustainability initiatives Today, we have launched the latest risk categories, forests and air pollution, alongside pre-existing categories of climate, freshwater, and biodiversity. 📢 There’s still time to enter our 2024 photography competition, in partnership with Magnum Photos. For the third year running, Textile Exchange and Magnum Photos have launched a competition for emerging photographers to submit a story under the theme Textile Transformations. Clothing and textiles connect us intrinsically to our planet and its many ecosystems, cultures, and communities. The materials used to make them come from farms, forests, or even oil from the earth, and they have often passed through many pairs of hands, transformed each time before they become the final product that we buy. While each transformation brings cultural and emotional significance, our collective appreciation of textiles often centers around the product itself, rather than where it came from, who created it, or what it has come to mean. That’s why, in partnership with Magnum Photos, we are looking for photographers interested in exploring the way we transform textiles, and how textiles in turn transform us. 🗓️ Submission deadline June 28, 2024 Find out more and enter https://lnkd.in/gehqekg8 → 📸 Photo by Yichen Zhou @yichenzhouu, 2022 competition runner up #textileexchange #textiletransformations #photographycompetition

🔈 Sound on 🔉 Today is World Environment Day, a reminder of our crucial responsibility to produce fibers and raw materials in a way that respects both climate and nature. This year’s theme focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience. With so many raw materials coming from the land, fashion, textile, and apparel companies have a major role to play in helping farmers grow a better future. Regenerative agriculture holds the potential to restore soil health, improve biodiversity, enhance water availability, boost farmer resilience, and more. For companies to help create a global production model where these holistic, regenerative practices the norm, fostering strong, equitable partnerships with producers is the first step.   #GenerationRestoration
