Tomorrow workers across Belgium will take to the streets in protest at proposed government reforms. We will be there with them. They deserve our support, and we join them in pushing back against measures that only serve to increase inequality. https://lnkd.in/emZRV3Du

Last week we were delighted to be hosted in Valetta by General Workers' Union Malta, as the second event in our project "Implementing Pay Transparency" took place. While the pay transparency text is a massive win for workers, it has become a target for business groups in their deregulation agenda. For workers is is an opportunity to re-balance the unjustifiable pay scales we see in many companies, providing workers (through their trade unions) with the chance to challenge and remove pay inequality where it exists. The discussion highlighted the importance of addressing the specific needs of professionals and managers in the Directive. Presentations were given on the situations in various countries, along with an exchange of ideas on issues such as gender pay transparency in the EU. 171 days after the elections we have a Commission, ushered in with the lowest majority in history. Europe desperately needs a social, pro-worker union, that puts people ahead of profits. A return to the status quo in an environment of rising authoritarianism, corporate monopolies and increasing inequality will only deliver for the richest in society. Workers want agency, quality jobs and safety at work, not a move to a US-lite Europe.
