We support European aviation and we do this by delivering technical excellence and civil-military expertise across the full spectrum of air traffic management. At the same time we raise the key issues that face our industry and how we believe that we can help deal with these challenges. Our activities touch on operations, service provision, concept development, innovation, Europe-wide project implementation, performance improvements, coordination with key aviation players at various levels as well as providing support to the future evolution and strategic orientations of aviation.

  • 🚀 Exciting milestone: Athens International Airport joins the EUROCONTROL network as an Advanced ATC Tower! ✈️ This collaborative effort between #AthensAirport & EUROCONTROL marks a significant step forward in enhancing aviation efficiency. 🌐 Becoming an Advanced ATC Tower is the first level of #AirportIntegration, enabling the provision of crucial flight updates through A-DPI & C-DPI messages. This allows for: 🚩improved predictability of take-off times for the #NMOC, EUROCONTROL's Network Manager (#NM) Operations Centre from which we manage the European aviation network 🚩 enhances overall en-route and sectoral planning 🚩 benefits also arrival airports by sharing more accurate landing time predictions with stakeholders utilising NM services. 📈 Given Athens' substantial traffic levels - currently around 550 daily flights ✈️ - this integration will help boost network predictability, particularly as we urge all actors to #thinkNetwork 🧠✈️ in preparation for the high levels of traffic expected this summer.     ✒️ Signed: a Joint Statement supporting the transition to a new service delivery model for air traffic management (#ATM) in Europe. 💬 Our DG Raúl Medina: "With this signature, EUROCONTROL officially joins a growing list of #aviation industry leaders committed to advancing the modernisation and digitalisation of European airspace, as outlined in the European ATM Master Plan". ✈️ ✍ Today's signature sees us join a growing list of signatories, highlighting broad industry consensus on the need to implement a data-driven, cloud-based & service-oriented architecture to enhance aviation safety, efficiency & sustainability across Europe. 💬 As Raúl emphasises, "at EUROCONTROL we are working closely with the SESAR Joint Undertaking and the SESAR Deployment Manager to develop a joint work programme on the different Open Digital Architecture Service Delivery Model activities (#ODA). Our aim is to avoid duplication and overlaps and show a common approach to the wider ATM community".

    Preparing for the future implementation of the EUROCONTROL Network Manager (#NM) Space Desk! 🚀✈️ This month, teams from EUROCONTROL & Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. gathered at our HQ to conduct a series of simulations as part of the SESAR #ECHO2 project (European Concept for Higher Altitude Operations, Phase 2). 🚀 ✈️ These simulations aimed to test the Network Space Launch Real-time Mission Monitoring (RMM) module prototype developed within #ECHO2's Solution 1 under DLR's leadership. The RMM prototype - featuring a real-time (space) mission monitoring module & a customised operational package for NM - will enhance situational awareness for NM's systems, thereby 📌 enabling the timely release of airspace restrictions when no longer needed 📌 providing real-time updates in case of non-nominal events. 👉 This will enable effective monitoring & management of airspace allocation for space transport-related launches & re-entry operations 🚀, including both orbital & suborbital flights. 🌌 The proposed procedural framework represents a cohesive evolution of existing airspace management procedures in the context of the European Aviation Crisis Coordination Cell (#EACCC), #NM flight &flow management operations, and local air traffic service unit (#ATSU) procedures. Our focus is on developing upgraded procedures that utilise ATM-relevant real-time space data, facilitating improved airspace management efficiency. The simulations for both nominal and non-nominal launches were successful, & mark a significant milestone in establishing procedures that will accommodate & integrate new entrants into European airspace - setting the stage for the future implementation of a "Network Manager Space Desk" 🚀. 🤝The initiative is supported by CIRA, ENAIRE, INECO, ENAC, ENAC, ENAV, ESSP, OKAPI:ORBITS (ACTUALLY , LFV, LIU, HYIMPULSE and NATS), with IATA participating as an observer.

    Really interesting discussions at the #SJUAnnual25 conference about how rapidly implementing #ATM innovations ✈️ can deliver tangible benefits – reducing delays & improving #AviationSustainability 🌱. 👉 The SESAR Joint Undertaking Annual Conference in Brussels earlier this week brought together 500+ prominent stakeholders from the European #aviation community, including representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, Member States, European and national policymakers, industry leaders, research centres, SMEs & universities. Two of our Directors participated in executive round tables: 📌 Iacopo Prissinotti, Director EUROCONTROL Network Management, discussed the next steps in transitioning to a new service delivery model for a more scalable, safe & resilient ATM in Europe 📌 Tânia Cardoso Simões, European Green Sky Director, discussed the role of ATM in decarbonising aviation & making Europe's skies the most sustainable in the world. 📢 In addition, 40+ #SESARJU projects were profiled in the Digital Sky Marketplace, including ⭐ 8 projects led by EUROCONTROL⭐ (covering everything from enabling trajectory-based operations #TBO and enhancing air traffic demand-capacity balancing and civil-military coordination, to developing virtual centre solutions and integrating new entrants, such as drones). The projects were presented by our experts from #EIH the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub 💡 and our Brussels HQ, as well as project partners which included: SESAR3 ATC-TBO, SESAR 3 Network Trajectory Based Operations (TBO) Project, SESAR 3 HARMONIC Project, SESAR 3 ISLAND Project, U-ELCOME DSD Project, EUREKA SESAR3 Fast Track project , CORUS five & SESAR3 project MITRANO.
