𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀? 💻 The #Internetecosystem is a complex network of networks, composed of layers and actors working together to facilitate global connectivity and communication and ensure functionality. Internet Services Providers (#ISPs), represented by EuroISPA, play a central role in providing #Internetaccess and maintaining the integrity of the #networkinfrastructure. ISPs come in various shapes and sizes: from an SME to an international corporation, even the smallest of these organisations is crucial for the functioning and stability of the Internet. Understanding these dynamics is essential for comprehending how the Internet works and navigating the digital landscape effectively 👇 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dev5MYVE AIIP | Associazione Italiana Internet Provider AMS-IX CZ.NIC, z.s.p.o. eco – Association of the Internet Industry FiCom Fédération Française des Télécoms ISPA Internet Service Providers Austria ISPA Belgium London Internet Exchange (LINX)
About us
EuroISPA is a pan European association of European Internet Services Providers Associations (ISPAs). It is the world’s largest association of Internet Services Providers (ISPs), representing over 2300 ISPs across the EU and EFTA countries – including ISPs from Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Romania and the UK. The association was established in 1997 to represent the European ISP industry on EU policy and legislative issues and to facilitate the exchange of best-practices between national ISP associations. Its secretariat is located in Brussels. EuroISPA is recognised as the voice of the EU ISP industry and is the largest ‘umbrella’ association of Internet Services Providers in the world. The reason for EuroISPA’s success to date is doubtlessly that it reflects the views of ISPs of all sizes from across its member base.

🎥 Catch the replay: ISPA Belgium debates Europe’s digital future Last month, our Head of Secretariat, Jan Feyaerts, participated in a panel discussion hosted by Debating Europe in the European Parliament to tackle one of Europe’s critical challenges: How can new technologies drive productivity and economic growth? Together with MEP Bruno Tobback, Joëlle Jouret (Google), and moderator Merle Becker, the panel dove deep into some of the biggest challenges and opportunities shaping Europe’s digital future: 1️⃣ Investing in digital infrastructure to close Europe’s tech gap 2️⃣ Empowering SMEs to thrive and lead Europe’s economy without relocating overseas 3️⃣ Simplifying regulations and reducing administrative hurdles This thought-provoking discussion, hosted alongside the launch of the 2024 Voices – Citizens Speak Up! report, tackled the challenges and opportunities of modernizing Europe’s tech ecosystem to meet the demands of the 21st century. 🎥 Want to hear it all? 🌐 EuroISPA strongly supports the EU’s commitment to the #multistakeholder model of #Internetgovernance, which has been instrumental in maintaining an open, free and secure Internet. ✍ In this blogpost, we cover how the EU can strengthen the multistakeholder model and encourage operators' diversity, levelling the playing field and enhancing the overall security and resilience of the Internet. The article builds on our response to the European Commission recent targeted consultation on its stance on Internet governance. Read it here 👇 https://lnkd.in/divbEHib

☀️ Our bright response to the #GoingDark report 🌑 Following the worrying recommendations by the HLG on Access to Data for Effective Law Enforcement, which, among others, could weaken #encryption and therefore make digital tools less trustworthy and European citizens less safe, we joined European Digital Rights and a broad coalition in rejecting their #InsecurityByDesign agenda by issuing an open letter 📢 Find the full open letter and recommendations for a brighter approach here: 👇 https://lnkd.in/dHNzmdRh
📢 Important message from EDRi with a coalition of 55 civil society organisations and professional associations: 📢 the High-Level Group (HLG) “Going Dark” final report fails to deliver what is necessary for EU digital security policy. In fact, following their recommendations would result in a grim outlook for everyone’s security and privacy #GoingDark. 🌑 In an open letter we address the fundamentally flawed proposals by the HLG and offer a brighter approach. ☀️ Open letter: https://lnkd.in/dbhM2_ZF Going Dark: Don’t be fooled by names If you want to understand the full story, we are here to shed some light on it, starting with the name. Despite the ubiquity of digital technologies enabling a golden age for surveillance, the work of the High-level group has from the beginning been based on the false premise of “Going Dark” and falsely assumed law enforcement agencies are “blind” actors without sufficient access to our data. 🕵️♂️ They use this narrative to promote an ideology of maximum police access to data for surveillance purposes. The HLG also goes by a longer name: High-Level Group on access to data for effective law enforcement. Unfortunately their proposals spell out a very grim impact on digital security policy, if you remove the disguise: ⚠️ mass surveillance ⚠️ insecurity by design and ⚠️ a fundamental weakening of digital security solutions. So in effect less trustworthy digital tools for people. No, thank you! So don’t be fooled by the the HLG’s attempt to launder dangerous policies with a new name. Check out our blog post on the EDRi website and read the full open letter. https://lnkd.in/ddx6sBwM

As the President of EuroISPA I was excited to share key insights into the vital role internet service providers play in shaping Europe’s digital future. 🔗 Connectivity & Innovation According to European surveys, Finland is recognized for its high-quality networks and exceptional mobile connectivity. We also score highly on innovation capability – a testament to our tech-forward mindset. However, challenges remain: • Over-regulation hinders investments. • Permit and licensing procedures need streamlining. • Policies must remain technology-neutral and market-driven to foster innovation and competition. Our mission at FiCom is clear: to create a better business environment that encourages innovation and investment while ensuring fair competition across the sector. A level playing field is crucial for sustainable growth. 🇪🇺 The European Perspective With 80% of ICT-sector legislation originating from the EU, FiCom’s partnership with EuroISPA is critical. Representing over 3,000 ISPs, EuroISPA’s collaborative approach ensures that national voices are heard in Brussels. As Albania prepares for EU membership, aligning with European digital regulations will be key – and a united ISP association will help navigate this journey. 💡 Looking ahead, the focus must shift towards fostering growth in the European Single Market, driving investment, and enabling an efficient digital ecosystem. Let’s continue to push boundaries, innovate, and collaborate for a better-connected future! Thanks to Namex for organising! #DigitalInfrastructure #Innovation #ISPs #PolicyMatters #FiCom #EuroISPA #Collaboration #EU
#Anixmeeting2024 🇦🇱 🇮🇹 🇪🇺 Our recent event in #Tirana brought together #110 attendees, over #65 companies from the #telecommunications and digital infrastructure sectors, alongside high representatives from the institutions of Albania, Italy and EU. 📍 Tirana has proven itself a pivotal hub for digital development in the Western Balkans. 🎙️ Key discussions included: 👉 The pathway for Albania to integrate into a unified European Digital Market, opening market competitiveness, investing in new infrastructures, and drawing inspiration from European regulations. 👉 The essential role of the Albania-Italy-EU partnership in driving this transition. 👉 The challenges and opportunities in achieving widespread broadband access and developing cross-border partnerships. ☺️ We’re proud that all the speakers acknowledged the role NAMEX has played, since 2017, in supporting the growth of ANIX - Albanian Neutral IXP as a neutral Internet Exchange Point, driving digital transformation in the region. 🙏 A huge thanks to all participants who contributed to making this event a success! 🤝 Let’s keep working together to build a stronger digital future and a broader community. #Networking #DigitalInnovation #Balkans #IXP RASH - Academic Network of Albania #ANIX RIPE NCC
