Every girl deserves to dream freely.    Let’s stand together to build a future without fear, injustice, or violence.  We are committed to making this vision a reality.    This year, our first ever EU legislation on combating violence against women and domestic violence entered into force.    It criminalises:  🛑physical violence  🛑psychological  🛑economic  🛑and sexual violence  against women across the EU, both offline and online.    For the first time ever, we are criminalising gender-based cyber violence, such as non-consensual sharing of intimate images, including deepfakes.    We will continue to do everything possible to protect victims and punish offenders.    #UnionOfEquality #OrangeTheWorld #SpotTheViolence

📍 This week Eurojust hosted the eighth annual meeting on migrant smuggling. Over two days, practitioners discussed: 🔸 digitalisation of migrant smuggling 🔸 unaccompanied minors as migrants 🔸 trends & developments in participating countries. 📂 Eurojust has been actively involved in the fight against migrant smuggling, coordinating 425 cases in 2023. The Agency provides operational support to national authorities through all stages of the proceedings, from when a case is opened by an EU Member State until justice is served in court. 💪 To strengthen its work in this field, Eurojust also supports a Focus Group of prosecutors and investigative judges, which consists of specialised prosecutors from all EU Member States and some non-EU States. 🚨 Eurojust & Europol assisted 🇩🇪 authorities with the coordinated takedown of a migrant smuggling network. 👥 29 suspects involved in smuggling at least 750 migrants to Germany & the United Kingdom were arrested. 💶 Migrants paid between EUR 4 500 and EUR 12 000 per person to be transported irregularly to Europe by the organised crime group. 🚨 Sophisticated cigarette trafficking scheme halted! 🌍 Eurojust, Europol and authorities from 10 countries stopped a criminal group linked to counterfeit cigarette production factories. 🇫🇷 🇮🇹 🇵🇱 🇧🇪 🇧🇬 🇩🇪 🇬🇷 🇱🇻 🇱🇹 🇳🇱 The group was discovered after they were caught importing large quantities of tobacco, concealed as waste tobacco. After entering the EU, the tobacco was transported to customs warehouses in Belgium, Spain and Italy. From there, it was distributed to cigarette production plants scattered across Europe. 👥 15 suspects were arrested and goods valued at EUR 13 million were seized. 🚨 A laboratory was seized and 10 suspects arrested in operation against cocaine trafficking gang. The 🇦🇱-led investigation revealed that the network was involved in large-scale drug trafficking from Latin America through European ports. The seized laboratory was processing and refining drugs for wholesale to other organised crime groups across Europe. 🏺 Precious archaeological vases and coins returned to Italian museum with support of Eurojust. ⚠️ The artefacts, valued at around EUR 2 million, had been illegally excavated and later sold in Switzerland. Eurojust helped Italian authorities carry out searches in Switzerland and collect data on bank accounts and transfers in Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as information on online auction houses.
