What makes zero-emission trucks so special? We asked truck drivers from Germany, France, Italy and Spain to tell us what the benefits of driving zero-emission trucks are, and they all agree: no smell of fuel, no noise, comfortable to drive, improved safety on the road, and many more! If drivers call for it, we need to deliver! Members of the European Clean Trucking Alliance are committed to deploy more zero-emission trucks on our roads. In next week’s vote in plenary in the European Parliament, policy makers should now also agree on ambitious CO2 emission standards in order to support the roll-out of these vehicles in Europe. 🚛 Road Freight Emissions in Europe – A Challenge that must be addressed together 🤝 🚨 The road freight transport sector has a significant role to play in the European Union's (EU) efforts to mitigate climate change. Did you know that transport accounts for approximately 25% of total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the EU, with trucks accounting for 6% of Europe’s total GHG emissions? 📊 🍃 Although we are constantly striving to lower our environmental impact through decarbonization and energy transition plans, transportation remains a significant source of emissions. Therefore, reducing the environmental footprint of road freight transport is essential for Europe to achieve its ambitious climate objectives. 🚧 This transformation comes with substantial challenges. Road freight transport operates within a complex landscape of tight margins, high competition, and fluctuating costs. Decarbonisation in this context is not just a matter of switching to greener vehicles – it requires a fundamental shift in business models, logistics operations, and infrastructure investment. Despite these hurdles, members of the European Clean Trucking Alliance (ECTA) are leading the change towards zero-emission trucks (ZETs); they are proving that progress is possible, and that the electrification of road freight is already underway.
