Last week we wrapped up the 2024 season of debates with a discussion on one of the most important topics that we are confronted with today: #Child protection online. The debate, chaired by Birgit Sippel MEP, underscored the urgency of collaborative efforts to safeguard children online. MEP Sippel was joined by distinguished speakers Ansgar Koene, Victoria de Posson, Janine Patricia Santos, PhD, Kelyan and Markus Hartmann. 💬 Policymakers were urged to refine existing frameworks like the #DSA while resisting instinctive regulatory measures. Industry and civil society were called upon to innovate responsibly and educate stakeholders. The shared vision was clear: a digital ecosystem that empowers young people, respects their rights, and protects them from harm. A unique perspective came from Youth Ambassador Kelyan, who stressed the importance of digital literacy #education for both youth and parents and demanded a cultural shift in #tech companies to prioritize user #safety. At EIF, we recently kicked-off the 🎓 #TechMasterclasses series, a format designed for MEP assistants, advisors, and European Parliament staff. The objective is to offer the opportunity to learn more on #tech-related themes that are at the basis of #digital policies, in a neutral environment. 💡 The first masterclass was on "#Connectivity infrastructure", where participants learned how fiber optics, mobile networks, submarine cables, and satellites work together to create the global communication infrastructure Europeans rely on every day. We heard from Owen Bryant, Head of Global Infrastructure & Deployment at Vodafone and from Anna Renata Pisarkiewicz, Research Fellow, European University Institute. If you are an EP staffer, make sure to enroll! There are more sessions coming up on important topics such as: 🌐 The Internet - 5 December ☁️ Cloud technology - 6 February 2025 🧠 Artificial Intelligence - 20 March ⚡️ Quantum computing - 10 April 🔗 Blockchain -15 May 🔒 Cybersecurity - 5 June Participants have access to all the presentations via a dedicated Resource Library.
