Euroseeds is the voice of the European seed sector. We are #GrowingTheFuture.
About us
www.euroseeds.eu Euroseeds merges national seed associations as well as individual companies into one single EU wide umbrella organization representing the totality of the European seed industry active in research, breeding, production and marketing of seeds of agricultural, horticultural and ornamental plant species. It was founded in November 2000 and is located in Brussels, Belgium. “Plants from seed are the origin of all food, provide innovative and environmentally friendly industrial products and beautify our landscape.” Euroseeds’s mission is to work for a fair and proportionate regulation of the European seed industry, freedom of choice for customers in supplying seeds as a result of innovative, diverse technologies and production methods and for effective protection of intellectual property rights relating to plants and seed. In that sense, Euroseeds lobbies on all seed related issues and specifically on: - seed marketing, incl. GM and organic seed - Intellectual Property Rights (Plant Breeders Rights, Biotech Patents, etc.) - plant/seed health (phytosanitary rules; seed treatments) - biodiversity and access to genetic resources - land use and food production - competitiveness of the EU agri-food chain It also aims at solving collective problems of its membership like e.g. market access in third countries.

🌽 Trouble’s ear-riving for the corn earworm! 🐛🌱 Penn State researchers found that high-flavonoid corn slows larvae growth & increases mortality, offering a natural pest defense. If research keeps going, #plantbreeders could be soon able to develop flavonoid-rich corn that protects against other insects for #organicfarming! ℹ️ https://lnkd.in/gd4rPHc3 #GrowingTheFuture #planthealth #plantbreeding

“The bananas have the same taste, smell, sweetness profile, the same everything, except that the flesh doesn’t go brown as quickly, which means you can add them to fruit salads and cut fruit products, opening up a huge new market.” Bananas are the world’s favourite fruit, and we’re excited to launch a new, better banana! 🍌 Our new variety is the world’s first reduced browning banana – it stays fresh after peeling and cutting, and doesn’t go brown as quickly as a conventional Cavendish. Find out more about how we’re leading the way to protect the world’s most popular fruit, and developing lines with benefits for consumers, farmers and the planet: https://lnkd.in/eXTAsP5Q #Bananas #PrecisionBreeding #GeneEditing | AgFunder Elaine Watson Gilad Gershon

⚖️ One year into her role as Intellectual Property & Legal Affairs Manager at Euroseeds, Francesca Garbato reflects on the challenges and surprises of working in the #seedsector. 🌱 Coming from a different field, she was struck by the complexity of plant breeding and the passion of those in the industry. "One of the biggest surprises for me was realising just how much effort and expertise go into the breeding process. It’s a meticulous and highly collaborative endeavour and witnessing the passion and commitment of our members has been incredibly motivating.” she shares. Intellectual Property (IP) remains a hot topic in Europe and ensuring a harmonized and robust European legal framework is key to fostering growth and fair competition. Beyond IP, she is focused on keeping breeders' interests high on the policy agenda, engaging with stakeholders, and advocating for Euroseeds' IP position.
