Wat een avond! We hadden de eer om koning en prinses Eléonore gisteravond in Flagey te mogen verwelkomen. Ze konden genieten van het immense talent van pianist András Schiff, wiens concert werd gevolgd door een ontmoeting in Studio 1. Tania Giannouli is a Flagey regular. This Saturday 16 February during the 𝗙𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘆 𝗣𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀, she's back onstage with a very special partner: ECM Records artist Nik Bärtsch. They met at the Enjoy Jazz Festival in Germany where they were both artists-in-residence and created an exciting piano duo: Sensual, hypnotic and dynamic. We uncovered an interview of the Greek pianist by Jazzwise Magazine highlighting the main idea behind this collaboration: « It’s really, really exciting what we do because there’s no egos. There’s not the idea of who will play more or who the best pianist is. Clara Schumann didn’t just play piano—she shaped the future of classical music. In the 19th century, when women were rarely given power in the music world, Clara was a trailblazer. She helped decide which composers would stand the test of time and influenced the tastes we still hold today. Without her, we might never have known Robert Schumann’s music, or even Brahms! During a time when classical music was losing steam, Clara fought to keep the sonata, concerto, and symphony alive. Now that we've laid the grounds, it's time to talk about love. More specifically, the love between Clara and Robert Schumann. And since a masterpiece is worth a thousand words, we leave it to Pianist Liebrecht Vanbeckevoort, Aleksey Shadrin and Ilse Eerens to masterfully interpret two pieces written by these creative soulmates during the Flagey Piano Days 2025.
